James Wan’s "Malignant" is a new, triumphantly messy vision of terror

I think that Malignant is one of those rare studio horror movies that you really don't know how it got made, at least in the way that it exists. It reminded me as well of kind of throwback to the schlocky horror of Roger Corman and the very kinetic bloody do it Yourself makeup of Evil Dead director Sam Raimi. All these influences are not so much separately homaged up on the screen as they are muddled together, thrown into a blender, tossed around a bit and thrown up on the screen

The architect of "Saw," "The Conjuring," and "Insidious" is back with a massive, cuckoo-bananas horror inspired by Frank Henelotter and Italian gialli

And I'm sure that this is something that will be brought up by a lot of people has been brought up by a lot of people. But they talked about how it felt like a film that would never, ever get made in other circumstances. And so the example that was brought up was actually Freddy Got Fingered. I don't know if you remember that movie with Tom Green, but Tom Green, they were like, yeah, he was a super popular celebrity at the time

There was very little fanfare around it. It was quite difficult to get interviews around this from a journalist press perspective, and I think that the movie is almost skipping right ahead to becoming a bit of a cult hit, becoming a bit of a cult classic in that way, which suits the zaniness of the film. It suits the bizarre tonal shifts of it

@isaacfeldberg WOW! That was something else…

You have to go see a lot of the more smaller films to have that experience. And with this one, it was fun. It was fun. I'm rambling because I just got out of the theater and I'm sort of trying to find my thoughts. But I wanted to respond right away because it's sort of a film that elicits that knee jerk reaction from you. And I didn't want to spoil it by going online and reading other people's opinions
