Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Unsane,’ on Hulu, an unusually cinematic gaslighting thriller shot on iPhone
Soderberg's Gambit is to use the iphone immediacy the unpredictability of not really knowing what your eye is going to catch in the frame first to add a certain subjectivity back into the logic and the narrative of the film. None of this would work without Foy, who is a terrific lead doing so much subtle work with her character. Who knows what she is saying is being consistently denied validation of that by Spheres and the larger institution she's forced to be inside of unsafe
