"Attack the Block," now streaming on Amazon, is one of the decade’s best sci-fi cult movies.

But whereas Edgar Wright's films often feel like genre exercises, films that are luxuriating in the styles that they're referencing, Sean of the dad, for example, is a buddy comedy smashed into a zombie apocalypse movie, and these films are delightful, but they often feel very style forward and then a little bit less sincere, a little bit more winking and knowing with our audience, we've Attacked the Block, and Joe Cornish does something a little bit more interesting, in my opinion, a little bit more sincere, which is channel this 80s Goonies meets Gremlins vibe that filmmakers like Joe Dante and Steven Spielberg had made that are aimed at younger teenagers who are really sneaking in horror films a little bit more extreme than their parents might be happy with

Before John Boyega met Star Wars, or Jodie Whittaker did Dr. Who, they fought aliens together. For more, my review on Inverse: https://bit.ly/2VUPukO

One of my favorites!

But if you're listening to Isaac's review here, I just want to back him up completely. This is a very special film, I think and I remembered are watching it thinking to myself, John Boyega is so cool. I can't wait to see him in something really big. And we got that. But it wasn't as cool as a Taco block, in my opinion
