Memes, politics, and entertainment: good or bad? An almost millennial question.

And in this aspect it's pretty positive because then anyone can get involved and it's for everyone and it's understandable by everyone and it's enjoyable by everyone. But in this sense, politics is merely entertainment and it's just a joke. It's just a big comedy. Has politics always been like this? And is this something that's positive? Or do you think that Atlas? It's a lack of hope and faith in the future of the country's political leaders

But the disillusionment just ended up becoming so outrageous that something needs to be done right. There was certainly a time in my life where I didn't really give a d*** about politics, not actively. And I certainly wouldn't talk about it with people. And then I started seeing these trends of the same horrible things keep happening over and over again. The same people are responsible for them, and nothing ever really seems to change. Right

🤔

Interesting perspective here. I have always never really found politics that interesting personally, and I can't really speak for young people, but the meme culture, I think in some ways it highlights maybe that the politicians really never were leaders to begin with. Maybe leaders of the other I don't know government policy, but no one really looks to them as leaders. Trump isn't really a leader for people that I know. He's just the President leaders are pop culture icons and baby Yoda memes

It's just that, as Taylor rightly pointed out, the main culture has made it possible for anybody with an opinion to express it in a playful, humorous sort of way. And while there are memes that actually represent nuanced ideas that involves the creators deep understanding on a subject to be able to visually convey complex ideas, there are also those that just cross the line and are outright deplorable

Great observation and question

But I think you brought up some other points and I really have to take back and think a little bit stronger on to understand the question of hey, is this ultimately good for politics or not? I don't know. My gut tells me it is only with certain small doses, but I'll go back and think about it deeper because it's a great question

Indifference and apathy

Meme or no mean if indifference is going to take deep root in young minds and keep them from being involved in politics or public life, it's not a good sign. Something we have to be deeply concerned about and not just the US. Most of the rest of the world is probably grappling with this question

@Phil

I guess my main concern is this over saturation a very surface level and maybe even misleading information to young people about the political climate and their political environment experiment, where there's this feeling of understanding without facts, as many people have already observed and stated in other recordings. But as for your question about the relationship between happiness and political involvement for my friends who aren't really involved and have their desire to be involved, don't talk to them. Don't mention politics
