Photo Tip #1: Framing

article image placeholderUploaded by @IBPStanley
So framing images really help apply depth. They layer, they give a foreground space, and then they give your subject or whatever it is. The main image. There's depth that's in the background. And having layers and photos is an amazing tool. William Alert, a famous National Geographic photographer, was really famous for this with taking pictures of Cowboys and horses and things running around and having a lot of depth

Framing the frame

Well, Pete, that's really interesting. I found that to be harder than I expected. I was sitting down listening to this, and then I thought, Well, I'll just take a picture from where I was sitting, and I could not come up with the compositions. Typically, when you look around, you don't see through, there's not a lot of frames around you. So you're right. It was dynamic

Nice one, Mike. And by the way, that's a really nice garden in the background. Looks like everything is growing really well. Any tips? I'm working on a little raised bed of my own as well. Alright, cool. Back to the camera

Thanks. Yeah. The garden's coming up. It's that time of year where you're not sure whether things are really going to blast off or not. A couple of them are, but some seem to be holding their ground and not growing, so we'll see it's always exciting

Peter, I'm learning so much from your posts, so thank you. And I hope you keep doing them. So when I was listening to your Swell, I had my coffee cup in my hand, so I used the handle of the coffee cup up the frame. And I took this photo. I don't know if it fits in with what you were suggesting, but I kind of like it. So I thought I'd share

Hey Beat, I have been recently following your swell cast and simply love the tips that you're sharing. Thank you for those. I decided to try this particular tip out this morning when I went on my Monday morning walk and decided to go trigger happy some sharing two photographs from that particular experiment. Here it goes

Hi. Thanks for sharing these photos. Yeah. This one. I really like this photo. The one with the sun popping through. I don't know if that's a fence or like a balcony wall or something like that, but your title is fitting, too. The Lockdown Blues. Yeah, I know the feeling, trust me, but it's neat. It's sort of the hard contrast between the Blacks of the grid line and then the sun coming through
