Of course, literary magazines aren't exactly flashy. They aren't covered in beautiful photographs, they don't contain the latest news. But in the world of creative arts, they are very essential. Could I have your take on the significance of such nontraditional platforms for encouraging creative expression?

We address the diversities. We try and address diversities in literary performance and visual arts practices. We try and position it within academic and nona academic spheres. HAKARA is actually interested in sharing of practice based work as well as research based work. It could be literature, it could be performance, it could be visual arts, it could be any form that could engage with the society in the context and culture. We try to publish a work that is reflective and creative as well

So our approach is that yes, we seek submissions from artists, scholars, researchers that will be in their own languages, we actually ask them a potential contributors to write in a language they feel most comfortable in. And there are other times when we feel strongly that specific piece needs to be translated and made available in both the languages

So our objective has been to open up the theme to wider considerations and invite multiple perspectives of looking at the same idea, the same concept, the same thing can be looked upon by visual artists, by a performance artist or a playwright or poet or a scholar. So we would like us, practitioners, writers, scholars and academicians to respond to a theme from different angles. And yes, we do receive submissions from different writers across the country as well as outside the country

Throughout these years, what we have realized is that there is a large pool of contemporary writers who have also been writing in Marathi and many other languages. And this pool of writers and also artists who are working within different contexts, they have been very critical and important for us to look at the context of the journal
