Session Five: Trusting the Tone

article image placeholderIt’s a thing
So it's a very specific environment to insert your voice and insert the idea that tone is carrying you through even the most difficult of conversations. So I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. And in this climate we're in, especially post election, I think also the chance to talk with each other has such value because we can feel those pauses

When’s the last time you misinterpreted somebody’s tone in a text or a tweet or a post?

I feel like I didn’t answer the question well 😂, but I tried 😂

I don't want to even say Ideologies, but it didn't align with the way they felt very cold in response to us crying or saying, we don't like this, and they might say I agree, but it didn't feel like it because of the way they express themselves. Their tone was hard to take as a child. I now know that that's just their personalities, and it's not a thing of I don't like you or I don't want to hear you

@Chi_Anonymous

Hey, Chi, I just noticed your beautiful profile pic, and you're holding your phone to your mouth the way all of us do when we're doing this kind of stuff. And I totally I'm the person who leaves voice texts even before swell. I just liked it better. It's so much more efficient, though, because, like I said, it cuts it right to the chase. But it's funny

Hello from Boston!!!

So I know that I have days where things just come out of me just the way I need them to like the right words, the right rhythm, you name it. And there are some days where I was like, I just can't do this. This is my first attempt at responding, and I don't really feel the need to have to go back and delete and start over again

Voice is particular medium. Myth of authenticity: a cultural object - codes

Whereas if you show everything on a video, people don't feel free to fancy you to fantasize an image behind your voice or around your voice. There we are. That's my take on that. Just some ideas. Thank you for the topic. Bye

Different tone from parents!? Interesting! @Chi_Anonymous

Is it your generation which was different or your American culture there around you was different from your parents'background? Possibly. Yes. That's interesting, because it's not only matter of understanding tone, is it? But rather keeping people off by not enthusing the way everybody does or refraining from sharing the same tone of voice as anybody around. There we are. I'm rambling a bit, but trying to find the correct words rather interesting things, really. The way you have felt with your parents

@joedimeo Dressing up one's voice...

Hello. Joe Zaki from Switzerland. Yes, I agree with you, but should we always be in a kind of a show, or should everything be a finished product ready to be presented and perfect? Shouldn't we be allowed to hesitate and look for words and look for ideas? Are we definitely wasting people's time when we reflect out loud? I'm not sure. Sometimes people may have time to think themselves. Yes

Cultural tones and overtones ;) @Chi_Anonymous @joedimeo @dzakyem

And the idea that I guess in this particular session, I wanted to talk about the gift of tone, meaning that gift of hearing and having that shortcut to the soul through the voice is really a human thing. But to your point, different cultures are going to be differently brought up to take those risks of being really expressive. And I think that's what these social audio platforms are good for us to really say. This is where we are doing this

I got a phonecall but my point was fundamentally made.

I love to speak freely, but I think when I'm trying to show up in society, when I'm having these conversations at times because I don't know you, because I'm not necessarily comfortable just yet. I do try to present it in a way that's perfect rather than just participating. And I think I missed the point. I miss the purpose of this conversation. I miss the enlightenment that can be had at times because of me wanting to control

Helloooooo again!!!!!!

Goodness, everybody has wonderful voice is so incredibly different. Here I am the hyperactive one, but I can calm down, too. I can give you my podcast givingvoice the radio voice. No, it doesn't work that way. I can tell you that there's something about being spontaneous and thinking through things. I never really spoke this way. I've been training myself to this because I've always wanted to do podcasting. I've always wanted to be a better speaker, especially on the microphone
