#DebateThis - Is Mankind Destined For Interstellar Travel?

article image placeholderUploaded by @geo_rhymes
It is a rather odd topic that I bring to swell. And while the idea may seem far fetched, the premise is not. You see, the need for exploration has been among the primal needs of man although it doesn't receive the recognition in the need hierarchical pyramid. However, the fact that early home sapiens were able to master the seas and set foot upon every continent is a testament to our spirit of exploration

The only limitations to our explorations is the technological limits of our time. #askswell #interstellartravel

So what do I think? Well, given the current technology, I don't think we'll be exploring or even living among the stars just yet. I just don't see that happening. Because of all the different factors with asteroids and livability and possible debilitating illnesses and such that can happen. Michio outlines all of this in his book. So I love that he's a futurist, but he also keeps it real about things that could possibly happen

Because when you look at interstellar travel and building this entire starship Enterprise and all of that, it would also involve us figuring out how to solve a lot of problems that we are currently facing on Earth today. For example, how do we conserve and recycle resources? How do we structure societies for the common well being, and how do we harness and use energy sustainably?

You. Hey, Joshua, thanks so much for chiming in with your thoughts. And right off the bat, something you said caught my attention, that your religious views sort of do not permit you from believing that mankind is destined for interstellar life. And, well, I agree with you. My religious background and my faith all lets me or leads me to believe that of all the places in the universe, the third planet from the fun earth is our home

Hello, souljourney one. K I appreciate you chiming in with your thought and thank you for sharing that picture of the book Mitcho Cup with. I've not come across that. But now you've aroused my curiosity and I'm trying to see if I can grab a copy of it. So, yes, you're right. At this point of time, we are nowhere close to having or achieving the kind of technology involved in enabling interstellar travel. So all we can do is speculate, right?

@Ramya

Nonetheless, we are a long way off from that reality. I think that future is beyond our lifetime. So all we can do at this moment is kind of speculate the reason or my approach to this entire topic has been, one, purely from a debate perspective, and two, a lot of the things that I believed or I held onto as this is what it is and nothing beyond it. For example, the Earth is our home. Third rocky planet from the sun is where we've made
