Green washing in popular clothing brands

article image placeholderUploaded by @gabrudolph
I was thinking about greenwashing earlier today while I was doing a bit of online shopping, while I was supposed to be doing some homework, and I was on American Eagles website and saw that they came out with a new line called Real Good, which is supposedly their new sustainable line. I looked a bit into it and all I really got was that they were supposedly decreasing their water usage and using more recyclable materials, so there wasn't really any more information to back that up

And what do you mean by natural? Because that is open for interpretation and a little ambiguous. Anyway, I know because it's a value to Gen Z that things be sustainable. All of these companies are clamoring to get that support. But similarly to the way all the same companies are turning all their logos rainbow for Pride Month and then no longer actually doing anything to support the LGBTQIA plus movement or even community, it can feel like the companies are deceiving us, which ultimately they always will

Because the funny thing and the saddest thing is that as you mentioned with the company where it's the $200 sweater, you have to pay more for something that is not this assembly line of manufacturing as it were, where people are actually handcrafting the stuff, doing it more the old fashioned way, you have to pay top dollar for that. And it obviously matters when it comes in terms of your health. I'm always mindful and aware of that

With certain generations, we need to look at where our products are coming from, how they're made, if they're being sourced properly. And I think that this is a really great topic. Thanks for sharing some of these brands and products. And I look forward to hearing more on what others have to say because sometimes you do your research, but sometimes your research isn't done well, and sometimes it's also hidden as well as you just don't know what certain things mean

Thank you for posting about this. And you guys all had some interesting points. I really think that a lot of these brands that claim to be eco friendly or claim to support the LGBTQ or whatever it is, they there should be some sort of standard or responsibility that they have to actually do what they're claiming to do and some repercussions if they don't. I really think that companies that make claims like that should have some sort of responsibility to uphold what they're saying
