The Wonderful history of Trolling On The Web.

article image placeholderThe Birth of the Internet Troll
But there will always come a time where, quote, unquote troll will rebel against this system. They will want to do things different, sometimes out of amusement or entertainment, but also because they feel it is necessary in order to make the conversation interesting and interesting. Things begin to occur when you go against some made up policies and rules of a particular platform. Now you do have some that go to the extreme, and they really do violate the terms and service, and they should be dealt with

Different kinds of trolling

But under your definition, I'm hearing, like, almost a good kind of troll that's innovative, pushing boundaries, thinking of some of the limitations that different terms and services may have or making things more inviting and accessible and interesting by giving your perspective, which might be different than the predominant one. But then there's also this bad kind of troll that is not just pushing the boundaries of the terms and service, but really directly going against them and being rude or inconsiderate

Balance of the Troll Force. 😆 @Izzy

So the people who coined the term troll back in the day, I believe this is what the web going for, especially when you look at the Dungeons and Dragon crowd. A lot of them are using Usenet at the time in the late 70s and onward. So this was not the internet that we know today. So the podcast I'm going to put together is going to be a fascinating study and look into the world of the internet back then

Toxic positivity

And like you said, you have a very tunneled vision of the world. Really. And trolling might serve as as almost a reminder to be more realistic or to think outside of your limited view

"Happiness is a choice." 🙄

Not everyone's going to agree, but as the more they talk with me, the more frustrated they become or something like that. So I guess for a person's mental health, they got to know when to dive into things and when not to. But yeah, it's fascinating to me, though, when what makes it that I bother somebody or irritate someone when I haven't directly spoke with them

Hey, what's up? Wonderful. You bring an interesting topic up. What is trolling? Okay. And I can give you my experiences. First and foremost, the history of trolling trolling started with don't want to say, started with, but it was made into an art form by a gentleman named Andy Kaufman, who was an unconventional comedian in the 70s who would intentionally turn the audience around and make the audience his audience

Is that trolling though? Lol @NealD

Hello, Neil. I am very familiar with Andy Kaufman, and I like to think that's what I tried to do. That's what I tried to do in my podcast is sort of have an Andy Kaufman esque vibe to of what it is that I do. So it's not like literally what he does, but I definitely get a kick out of subverting the expectations of the audience listening

@Wuandurful

But I think the confusion here is I'm not saying what you're talking about is trolling, and what you're talking about could be positive because we do need people to oppose our views. We do need opposition. What I'm simply talking about is people that create profiles or things, especially on YouTube to be negative and mess with other person. So just to be clear on that, that is what I consider trolling. Thanks

And then you try to tell them that they are wrong. And then maybe that's where other trolling begins. Because if you get into maybe a discussion with them going back and forth in comments, they just make themselves look really silly because they're just not knowledgeable on the topic. So maybe you could chime in and tell me maybe that's different, but it's an interesting topic all around. And I see this kind of stuff all over the internet, man, all over the internet

Thanks for clearing that up! @NealD

They wrote me as a woman saying they wanted to be my sugar Mama, which was already a bad sign. What women, you know, go online to want to pay guys money to talk with them. That's science fiction. So it's very weird. And the person has since ceased communication. Magically? I don't know yet, but the Internet is an amazing place. And again, I like to pattern myself after Andy Kaufman

@Wuandurful

Trying to be egotistical here, but that's what he maybe aspires to. And he's in competition with me. And you really shouldn't be in competition with anybody. You just try to support people as a whole, as a community. So, you know, trolling is just an aggravating thing that is a reality in society today. And for the most part, I don't agree with it

@Wuandurful

I would always get someone come in and say, Well, what do you know about hip hop or rap music? You dumb, stupid white boy. I would see that several times, and that, to me, is considered trolling. It comes from hate, and it comes from a racist mentality. And it's not right on either end. That's beyond trolling, and that needs to be stopped. So I think what you're talking about is it goes way beyond trolling
