So I was always of the belief that dating was the casual stage in which you are getting to know people like plural, more than one, if that is the case. So if you do happen to date and you meet with someone one week and you meet with another person the other week, there is no rules being broken. You're not cheating on anybody because you're not yet finalized in a relationship or you not have got to the point where you're exclusively dating one person
