Are you pretty?

article image placeholderUploaded by @FryedOreo
Take a look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, Am I pretty? Answers may vary now think back in your life to advantages you may have due to your prettiness. Now this may, on the surface, only appear to apply to women, but some men out there too. Possibly. I don't really check too much of Swell's clientele, but pretty privilege is a real thing. Some women on this app have had their rent paid for and drinks paid for simply because they were pretty

Does society agree with you? #prettyprivilege #beauty

Okay. I'm sure you're a nice guy, but if you think there is one woman on this platform that doesn't know about pretty privilege, you've been living in cave. If you think there is one man on this platform who doesn't know about pretty privilege, you've been living in a hovel that really got me heated up. Your assumption that we are all ignorant of society standards, we live in society

Some people experience it and they're in full view of his power, and they enjoy it the bad or other, not a judgment or an assessment. It's just life. And I think we've all benefited from some privilege. You know what I mean? To be on this platform and all of us with our posts and our voices, that's a form of a privilege. Maybe it's through education or accessibility or whatever the case may be that gave us the ability to do this

Your passion is much appreciated here! @Shawn_Christy

I can appreciate, as you said, that said, passion. I can appreciate it very much. But also another example and point I wanted to bring was growing up, I was oblivious to pretty privilege. I understood to some degree that good looking people had more attention. But I didn't know to what degrees that attention accumulated

Beauty is the universal currency. @realbriggster

What I often find is that it's something that is not directly communicated, but it's indirectly communicated on a daily basis. As you said, we are not only a society but a human species, if you will. We are a species that caters much towards the flesh. There are, in many instances we put a lot of money into things to accentuate our looks that we really don't necessarily need to survive

I mean, it is, of course, but who are the people that have determined what this universal beauty is or this thing that we all universally find attractive? And this is why I mentioned the other overarching thing before. There's all these systems in these systems we all fall into. We didn't create them. They are just here. They're self perpetuating. And there's just been this sort of road map laid out of what attractiveness is or what beauty is

Ruling classes dictate beauty standards. Well said @realbriggster

And this is why it's so vital for me personally to ask these sort of questions, because sometimes I have missing pieces to the questions and the fact that you you brought in power as a starting a systematic way of viewing things, it trickles down to where when we look at aspects of beauty, especially here in America, we can't help but be reminded of the colonizers. Their look itself is what we emulate in terms of beauty

And the funny thing to watch is that they still maintain the attitude of being that really good looking young woman. And then they get extra angry when things just don't happen for them, the way they used to, when men just don't do things for free. Now, the way they used to. I actually had one ask me to come give her an estimate for some work and basically was telling me that she couldn't pay full price

Good to hear from you bro, 🤝 @AverageJoe

And I talked about that a little bit on here in terms of the social classes and those in power sort of create this beauty, if you will. And beauty changes over time. I was just looking at Lotus Feet documentary on Lotus feet in China, how they would have their women buying their feet to fit these tiny a** shoes. And it was considered sexy back then, we would be repulsed by it here in the west

I treat people the way I want to be treated, so it doesn't matter if they're beautiful or not. Now that I can sit and reflect. Yes, I have been on a receiving end of pretty privilege, not really caring because I really don't care how it looks. But with society, I guess I would fall into that category of being pretty or whatnot, but I never really paid attention to certain things like, oh, I'm like, oh, they're just being nice

Thank you @SophiaMoonchild

But this can lead into darker waters of like in sales and voluntarily celibates who have their ideas on beauty and how they feel that since they don't have beauty, then they have their own walks of life with it. But I think psychological aspects of the topic is what brought me to it mostly. But yeah, I am aware and cognizant of beautiful people, and I, to a certain degree, see myself as beautiful
