Birth of the Meme: Richard Dawkins

article image placeholderRichard Dawkins on the internet's hijacking of the word 'meme'
The year is 1976. And you are reading a book from Richard Dawkins called The Second Gene. And towards the end of this book, a word word is used to describe a virus like situation where something spreads from one person to another to another to another via information. And this word would be coined meme at the time, just a passing thing. But in comes the birth of the Internet and social media as we know it

Happy Meme Day!

Hey Dewuan, thank you for this. I always wanted to where it came from. And also thank you for the National Meme Day, September 29, 2021. It was established here. I'm sure other places, but I feel very proud to be one of those people who was there when it happened. So happy. National Meme Day. And I might send out a meme today, just in the spirit of this beautiful, dangerous holiday

🙏🙏 @DBPardes

Hello Deb, and thank you for responding and also being a celebratory participant in National Meme Day. And yes, it has gotten some flak and recent times, but it's not the means fault that's the users that are very aware and understand that people are lazy with information and knowledge and will gladly take advantage of it sometimes just for the lulls
