Do you mind telling someone when they’re wrong?

article image placeholderTry again.
When it comes to hearing information that you know is false or incorrect, how are you with correcting that information? Let's say, for instance, on social media, is it a natural thing for you to correct people, or is it very hard to do that personally for yourself, or do you just not do it at all? It's

If not, then why? #correction #badlogic #manners

Perceptions of right & wrong

I think it depends. It depends on a couple of things. If I have the energy, the mental energy, then I definitely would correct people and by correcting people from, hey, just so you know, this is kind of my perspective or what I understand about the situation that might not be what you expressed doing it in like a gentle, educational manner instead of you're wrong kind of a way. But in general, I would say even in person in different situations

Sometimes you have to be wrong in order to find the right way. @Izzy

And something about that to me was interesting because I wanted to find that information out for myself right then, right there. And I did. I wanted to see the timeline of Weinstein when the allegations were made and what news company ran with it first and all that sort of stuff. And I found out some good information on it. But the guy still was kind of right in the sense that I guess some of the victims went up to the media outlets and they weren't really budging on it

Correct to help. @Joylove

Brandy Joy Love. Yes, I do wander a lot, but this is what makes me a cool person, as some people tell me, but I'm guessing you're saying Nabra wander less point taken anyway. Thank you for your insight. And yeah, isn't that scary? I've seen that happen a lot of times. I fell victim to that a couple of times where you correct other person on something. But actually, you were wrong as well
@SeekingPlumb

Funny that. 😆 @Wuandurful

It's funny you asked this question, Dewuan. I'm guessing that maybe you received a notification of some kind from Instagram that I had left a comment on one of your memes, but when you went to click on it, you promptly found I had deleted it. Yes, I'm guessing anyway, we could talk about that if you want. But to your question here, obviously, I don't mind telling someone, but I think there are a lot of things to consider first
@SeekingPlumb

More than you ever needed or wanted. 🤪 @Wuandurful

In the context of this conversation. My thoughts on that meme were to say that there is an overdiagnosing of certain mental health conditions really sets you up for trouble. They say this about things like autism and ADHD, maybe other things as well, but things like ADHD and autism present differently in girls and women. And so we are under diagnosed

I need to learn to take compliments better. 🤦🏾‍♂️ @Joylove

And I think the real danger is not taking those risks out of fear of being wrong, not taking the risk of trying to explore and learn more about something. So yeah, teach his own. Really. But yeah, I'll try to keep coming with interesting conversations and topics, because that's why I'm here

I would of never had known, thank you for sharing! @SeekingPlumb

And I do notice a trend of that on the web where it's kind of chic and in to have depression and other various sorts of mental illnesses, which is very bizarre. But I think sometimes folks can confuse those who are coming out and speaking and trying to end the stigma. They're confusing that for, I guess in a way, entertainment or maybe not excusing it, but they're confusing it for entertainment
@SeekingPlumb

@Wuandurful

I knew Instagram was fast on it, but I also knew that you typically have an iphone. And I thought if the Instagram notification went through to your iphone, then it may be on your locked screen or something. And that's why I thought maybe you would have seen it. Oh, well, all of that. I mean, it sort of adds to the conversation, but still sorry it's a bit much anyway. Yeah, I understand what you're saying

Other post ended up getting a bunch of likes, and it was a lovely picture of the bug, and that's that. But ultimately, again, you can be as eloquent as diplomatic as you could possibly be. Some people I don't know, some people just don't care. They'll get mad and they'll fire back. If I go on my Facebook page, I already know if I post something I already know who's going to reply. What? How theyre wrong to say it?

I may be jeopardizing my P. But the test says I’m a J...

But then, as you know, things escalate things go on. And I've got better things to do with my time than arguing with strangers on the Internet. Although I've adapted a strategy and I'm using this in real life, too, not just on the Internet, but with people. I know if I find something that's wrong and I want to engage on some topic where I think it's worth engaging, I will often say, rather than you're wrong, help me out here

And the platforming of Trump and others like him who have been stirring this pot that led to the death of people they think falls under freedom of speech, and it does not. And it never did. And so the fact that I am just so disgusted with this group and so tired of their facade, their ruse of patriotism, when, look, let's be honest. They spent years claiming Democrats hated America

Tactfullness usually wins out. @joedimeo

Joe DeMille, thank you for responding to the Swell, and sounds like your policy is probably the best course of action in regards to folks telling things that they may not have all the information on or in the case of the bug naming it the wrong bug

You’re still an INTJ, don’t worry @Tim 😆

I'm realizing I'm kind of more of an independent, and I independently came to this finding while watching clips of Jesse Ventura of All People talk. It's interesting, certain things he was talking about, that's kind of what I like. Okay, that's what I agree with as well. So I find, too people get really p***** when you're not exactly for or against any cause, and you're just sort of neutral to the whole thing

Politics + Facebook = craziness! Lol @AverageJoe

So yeah, average Joe in these trying times, with social media being as influential and omnipresent as it's ever been, the market is saturated with opinions, especially on politics. One who is politically minded and savvy can find more ways to speak about their message without necessarily needing to antagonize and demean and belittle others. At least that's how it used to be done. Who knows now. But anyway, thank you for responding to this. Well

So maybe in cases like that, that's something they want to hear. But then other times, if you're debating with someone on an issue and you tell them they're wrong, that always ends up being a personal fight. So lately what I've been doing is I've been trying to kind of rephrase me telling someone that they're wrong instead of saying you're wrong because that seems very accusatory. I instead tell them I don't think that's true

Healthy choice @FilmStarlet

Film starlet. Thank you for responding to the Swell and sounds like you have a healthy course of action in regards to potentially trying to correct misinformation in favor of enlightenment over ego. And I think definitely the ego comes out a bit more when you're a bit hostile in needing to substantiate. I can be guilty of this at times. I'm not going to pretend like I'm a Saint
