Can Blacks be racist?

article image placeholderUploaded by @FryedOreo
You're. This meme of Peter Griffin from Family Guy hilariously depicts today's topic following in a continuation of Social Structures Race Week. And today we ask a poignant yet serious question can blacks or African Americans or Africans be racist? And what we are asking this question for is to highlight the social constructs surrounding racism. We already know, for instance, that race itself is a social construct

Or are the marginalized incapable of discriminating against the majority?

So it all depends on context. But generally speaking, the minority, I don't think that the marginalized group I don't think can be considered racist. Because in my mind, the responses are in response to being discriminated against. I mean, of course there's possibilities of more there, but yeah

And so when we break down this definition, it says characterized by showing prejudice, discrimination or antagonism. So what that shows me is that I don't have to be of a particular race in order to be able to display these types of behaviors. I can discriminate against people who are not black. There are pan Africans who do not wish to do any type of business or association of any kind with people outside of the black race. So that would be discrimination

According to Miriam Webster, it is having reflecting or fostering the belief that race is a fundamental detriment of certain of human traits and capacities and that radical differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. So the added thing on what you had read was the typically a minority or marginalized group. That doesn't exist in the Miriam Webster definition. And even in listening to what you said, the word typically, that does not mean always. So my answer would be yes. There can be racism within groups

Um, seeking plum. Thank you so much for taking the time to join this well cast where we talk about social constructs surrounding race. Race and the question, can blacks be racist? Now, it's interesting with the majority and minority and those that are marginalized, right? One can make an argument that all race has been marginalized or has been a minority at some point in time. So one can deduce, in fact, blacks are just as equal of being racist as any other race

@MsColes77 i made a mistake with saying you screenshot, my aoologies.

You said typically, so it could mean other people, right? Because that's what it said in the definition. But I had to look up myself the definition of typically and in most cases usually. So, yeah, there can be exceptions, but it's usually the rule. And as I was saying, with seeking plum to ask this question is very controversial. Some people would even call me a Republican as a result. They would say, hey, this ain't a black

And this can be in the form of behaviorally. So you can nonverbally be racist towards people. They may not know it, but you know that you are discriminating or being prejudiced against these people because of their ethnic background or culture. Right. Maybe this also can be a little more in language directed towards having a dress code that specifically targets clothing, shoes, apparel, things of that nature. Right. And maybe this ante can be upped a bit by verbally indirectly, speaking of racism

It's going to be about wealth. Yeah. I think that's where the future is going. It's all going to be about it's all going to be about the individual. It's going to be about the lifestyle, the access, the access to rights that we're not afforded to because we cannot afford it. It's going to be about prestige. But who knows?

When you get legislation in the mix, when you get capitalism and private industry in the mix in terms of what they can deem let's even take it now, right? Some people are taking it to be racist, some type of systematic racism that Walmart is taking a part in by closing down all their stores in the urban areas due to so called lacking bad performance. Which is interesting because Walmart, when I was there all the time, was packed. It was nothing but people in there

I was going through my drafts and saw I didn’t post my response. But overall answer is, No.

You? Good question. My initial answer is no. Black people cannot be racist. And not because of the denotation or the definition that you used, because the dictionary is constantly updated and it's constantly updated to meet modern usage of a word. And you also did, I think, a Google search versus Webster's Dictionary definition, definition, and they seem to be a little different

It's interesting, isn't it? Race is a concept we all agree upon for outside of our human experience, it means nothing. So racism, in fact, it's a very man made concept and idea. But you have an interesting quandary. Are whites responsible for racism as we know it today? Were we homogeneous as a society prior to the invasion of white colonizers? That's interesting to consider. I do not have on hand information of the ancient civilizations and how they existed or coexisted
