The Sculptures of the Parthenon

article image placeholderUploaded by @enwells01
If you go to the Parthenon today, many of the sculptures are gone. Some were destroyed in wars or iconoclasms, but many, including the largest sculptures on the Pediments, were taken to the British Museum in London, England. They are often called the Elgin Marbles, named after the British guy who brought them back. People have all sorts of opinions on artifact repatriation, and the Parthenon marbles in particular, which is the biggest example of artifact repatriation

Hey Emily, it's really interesting to hear your now two swells with the focus on this work. I've never been to the parthenon and seen such detail or studied it in the way that you're sort of inviting us to clicking on your picture. I'm just so impressed with the 3D perspective. And also you're pointing out that maybe this was painted in bright colors at some point

Definitely go research this for yourself though, because this is a the colors of the paints and things like that is definitely something I'm not very well versed in but I am happy to answer your questions
