The Sam F Davis Stakes: Grade 3

article image placeholderSammy Davis
He only owned it for six years, but that was enough to throw Red Sox fans steer clear of anything having to do with Tampa Bay Downs for six years now, the race itself has not been very prominent in producing any Kentucky Derby winners. This race is at a mile on the 16th, and it's on the track there. It's a dirt track, but it's very Sandy, so it's kind of like running on the beach

The road to the KY Derby takes us to Tampa this week. Saturday TVG 5:00pm ET

Race Preview: Anything can happen

Alright. It's time to preview the Sam F. Davis States. Now this race is going a mile on the 16th on the sand down in Tampa. It's a dirt track, but it is kind of Sandy. And the first thing that I note is that Todd Pletcher has two horses in this race. He also has two horses in the Withers Steaks. He also had two horses in the stakes last week at Gulfstream. Are you sense in the trend here? Yeah

Recap and horses to watch: Candy Man Rocket and Hidden Stash

Well, the Candy Man can. Candy Man Rocket comes away with the win at Tampa. And I mentioned in the preview that Billy Mott when he has runners in these three year old prep races, it's wise to pay attention because he's not one to really kind of rush these trainings. So his horse, Candy Man Rocket, wins the race. His other horse in the race, Nova Rags finishes second, so he finishes one, two here and not a great final time
