My Thoughts on aging

article image placeholderUploaded by @DearAuntyAng
Not only have I aged, life has aged. There's many people in my life who are no longer here. My grandparents, siblings, friends, neighbors. Many of the stores that I used to shop at are now closed. In fact, in my hometown, the buildings have even been knocked down. I can drive by many places and remember what used to be there. Heck, even some of the trees have been uprooted. Right?

And then there are some changes. That's wonderful because you're gaining new wisdom every day. There are new discoveries, new friends, new things that you're doing and experiencing. Young people, they can enjoy being young. We all did. But when you're young, you're at the age of where you're trying to establish things or there are still certain things you can't do, certain things that you don't know. But when you're older, they say you get wiser

I can imagine if I had a car that was 45 years old, right? That's considered a classic. It's considered antique. Most of them are not running unless you put a lot of work into them. And it's just the reality of what happens when we get older. Right? So the acceptance of it, and I think it's a good place to be. We live in a very youth focused society, so it's pretty much been taught to us, youth is great

But again, when I look at it overall, I definitely have to say that I'm blessed. So that's what happens a lot of time when you think about aging. You just have to think about what your thoughts rather, on aging. You have to think about what you've been able to live with thus far, and even the pain

I, too, like you, I didn't have any issues with me until last year. I mean, outside of low iron, but it wasn't anything that I had to keep going in the pharmacy for or anything like that. But last year, diagnosis changed that. So now I really do feel my age. It

And yes, to lot of people, we're still young. But, yeah, we're kind of, like, youngish. We're not, like, super young, but we're not old. We're just youngish, I guess. But doctors start treating you differently as you get older. But this was good. Thank you
@MsColes77
Tanya Coles

But, yeah, I mean, we really do need to accept that there are certain things that come as you get older, that it's not about what you didn't do right, what you did do right, what you did wrong. That's not always the case. Sometimes it's just really, we're getting older. My shoulder hurts. My left shoulder bothers me a lot. It could be because of the exercise that I do, but it also could be just a part of aging

And again, the only way to not get old is to die young. And who wants to do that? When I think about all the things that I've experienced and the things that I have yet to experience, right. I'm grateful for getting older. I've come to grips with it. I'm not old, but I am getting older, and I don't feel young either. Right?

So I'm seeing a lot of people, particularly women, trying really hard to cling to their youth, and I'm like, just let it go. Let it go. Taking care of your health and staying healthy is number one. That should be at any age. Taking care of your inside always produces a nice glow on the outside life anyway. So it's always good to take care of your inside. But, yeah, sometimes it's funny watching these women trying to keep their youth

Before I was hit with this chronic illness, I didn't think I was immortal, of course, but I figure nothing could get me down that I'm doing all right because I had changed my eating and I was working out some, but it wasn't enough. Clearly it wasn't, because now I'm stuck with this. Even though it can be reversed, it's troublesome. And so it reminds me of my age all the time

It is a blessing to be alive and it's so wonderful that although you've lost your dear mom that you were able to see her, what's 89 years? And your sister, I believe you said 73 years. Those are blessings. My mom is still alive, thank God. But I'd lost siblings in their thirty s and forty s and one in their 50s. So it is a blessing to get older and people joke and say things about older people, but come on now

She's still going to be in the club partying. She's still going to be getting all these lip fillers and Botox and everything else to keep that skin tight. And she literally is a senior citizen. And you would think at this point, she would just want to grow old gracefully with her children. If she decides to marry again, so be it. But just to grow old gracefully with her children and leave it alone. But no, she's still out there touring

But the vogue that she did when she was in her 20s or whatever, it's not working in the senior citizen. I don't know. And then with Jlo, kudos to her for sculpting her own body through rigorous workouts and trying to maintain her youth. But she still looks different than she did when she was a teen or in her 20s. She just looks like she's keeping herself up and keeping herself together. That's got to be tiring and it has to be hard work

One, I met the dermatologist, right, to get some stuff consulted and facial and all that. Stuff. So that's good that apparently I'm taking care of myself. But the way she said it, too, was like, you don't look like 77, as if 77 is pretty old or someone that had been born in 77. It's like, whoa, you weigh in the 19 something. Because it's crazy. If you think about it

That's why it's kind of good to just be average, even kill in the looks department. And I think it helps to age gracefully when you're not trying to keep up with some image that you never had anyway, in my opinion. So thank you so much. Talk to you soon

Hey, Andrea. Yeah. The alternative, either die young or live to be old, right? That's the alternative. And so the better choice for me, like you said, is to get older. And it is what it is. And I love your hair. And I love when I see women with a head full of gray hair, it's a couple of women I know. I'm trying to think. At least four women that I know

Because I definitely ain't going in anytime before it starts to get about 60 degrees during the day anyway. Yeah. So I agree with you as far as getting old, but I love old me. I think I'm just freaking fabulous. And I'll probably be fabulous until the day I die. And I'm going to try to be. I really am. I'm going to keep wearing my dresses and keep doing my hair and looking all cute and pretty, and that's just that

I take collagen and I use a nice SPF because black folk need to use that too. And I recently was going to a dermatologist about another problem. So I do like to take care of my skin and I like to take care of myself overall. But the whole theme of this swell is even at my best intentions, my 70 year old skin is not going to look like it looks today at 46. It just ain't. But I'm going to do my best

Certainly not like late teens, early 20s. When age start kicking in, at some point in time, we'll realize that we know we're getting older. We just don't want to get too. We don't want to get to the point where we're too old to do the things that we used to do, and that's going to happen. There's this new thing

And even then, you got to look out for drunk drivers or someone being chased in the car by the cops or people racing and stuff like that. So I'm very careful crossing the street. Anyway, one day I cross in the middle of the street, and I start to panic because cars are coming on both sides, and that's not usually me. Anyway, someone pulled up and they leaned some young dudes in a car, leaned their head out the window

Oh, my gosh. I'm sorry. I thought I was done laughing by the time I pressed this mic, but. Oh, my gosh. Mo, that was funny. Oh, my gosh. Oh, man. Funny. I got nothing else to say, but that was funny. Oh, my gosh. Let Moe get it together. That was funny. And you made me think of something else, too. You said, did you hope that I feel better with my teeth?

Who says that I haven't already lived just less than half of my life? I can be here to 100. I was actually talking to my daughter the other day, and she said, ma, where will you be in 50 years? What do you think? And I stopped and I chuckled and I said, well, in 50 years, I said, we're both going to be two little old women on the porch in our rockers

And if anyone looks at aging like a curse, and I hope they would be encouraged to think differently, because it's such a blessing to be here and be wiser. In 50 years, I would be 96 years old. I hadn't even thought about it. So I would be 96. My oldest son would be 77. What? He would be 77. I'm like, that blows my mind. And my baby would be 61, but we would all be old

And then when you get around to Gen Z's, let me tell you, they will make you feel like you have wasted your whole life stressed out because they're, like, so chill and relaxed. I love it. But, yeah, it's definitely a process. And I think that aging is a beautiful thing and it should be done gracefully. And. And if that means giving yourself some grace, then do that. Bye

And so it feels good to just kind of relax into aging and things like that. So I was saying in another reply, I might have said it to two different people, that I have to get a tooth extracted. And when I went there, the dentist or the surgeon offered sedation, and I've had two teeth pulled before and I've always done a novocaine. But when they offered sedation, I was like, oh, that sounds. What's up? That sounds good

That was a really unique twist because I've only pretty much reflected on you're only as old as you believe that you are phrased to directly correlate with age. And more so because unfortunately, in, I'll say, american culture, because I'm not familiar with other cultures. In the american culture, aging as of late is not viewed positively. People are doing a number of things, and I'm not saying what I'm about to say with judgment

It happens rapidly. Right? But I was just on a YouTube. I was going down the rabbit hole of YouTube, and I was watching all of these video clips of botched cosmetic surgeries, anything from the Botox to the lip injections to the BBL lipo, et cetera. And I was like, oh, boy. So I will not be going under nobody's knife anytime soon because those videos scarred me

But then I started thinking about it and I said, aging is a blessing, not a curse. Every day that you're blessed to be on this planet and feel those pains and to see your gray hair coming in and watching my face turn white, where I used to have dark sideburns, now they're all white. My chin is white. And then I said to myself, you know something?

@DearAuntyAng Age is a gift 🥹 #aging #reflections #perspective

Or we could look on the positive side of, like, what an amazing opportunity to say that you've gone to these different places, held these different titles, done these different things, acquired this much abundance, so much wonder and joy and privilege occurs as you have the gift of life each and every day. So I'm grateful for aging. I'm grateful for every day that I have with my son

And I just remember thinking, man, when we get out of here, the blessing it will be to just, even just to get up and go and just decide you want to go for a walk or decide you want to go get ICE cream or whatever you have the freedom to do. We can do so with having the use and activity of our limbs and being in our right mind. Right. So aging is a blessing for sure. I think that any way we can embrace it

@DearAuntyAng Time goes quickly ❤️

It is wild how quickly time goes. He was there, and now he's hollering and yelling at me, mom, like I'm a servant. As I I have to serve my lord. So, yes, I will enjoy all the time I get. Because before you know it, I will be the baby, and he won't be the grown up in a future state. Have a wonderful day
