A few reasons why I’m no longer on Clubhouse and why IG is next

article image placeholderUploaded by @DearAuntyAng
I guess it's great, but what it did for me is it kind of made it go back to a Facebook post. I mean, the chat is akin to a comment. And so the chat would be live. People would be chatting back and forth, and there was never really a need to go on stage in a lot of these rooms, because we could just chat. But I'm already chatting. I'm already chatting on the IG and the Twitter and the Facebook

A few reasons why I’m no longer on Clubhouse and why IG is next

I'll take you up on this. I've listened to quite a few of your swells and you have responded as well to mine. I'm actually finding this site is taking a turn for me and I'll give you three examples. The first had posted a fairly emotional post or made a podcast about my hometown having a Pride event and how I was concerned that it could be dangerous

People get on their soapboxes, still kind of background noise. I don't use Twitter anymore. I never saw like, to me, I would rather use verbal Twitter like this. And Instagram. I use Instagram for my business, my two businesses. And I use Facebook for family and for dad jokes and stupid memes. You might not have to shut down your Instagram altogether if you're going to be using the same handle, because you might lose the handle

You, man. I hear your frustration. There's going to be trolls everywhere. Like, somebody commented on my Instagram and said something and I, like, wrote out a response and then deleted it. Wasn't worth the response. Um, somebody's going to say something that you don't like. And yeah, you're right. You can do something about it. You can block them. You can report them. Free speech has a limit

And I did a rant in response to that where I wanted to tag her in it. So I can see that kind of thing happening, but that's where there's human beings, so I can see that being a thing. And that's fine, too. So I don't know. Swell, for me, I guess it's pretty much fun at this point. Fun and interesting and maybe even an avenue of learning

During that period, social media just became something that I was like, I need to step back. I noticed myself always using filters on pictures. Couldn't even step away from filters, right? I found myself only being in the moment partially whenever I went places because I was so focused on posting a good picture or checking someone's page. And dating even was affected by it, because when you date, people want to say, hey, what's your social media?

I could do IG lives and things like that. I've just not done those things. But I like instagram. I like what it provides. But Facebook has always been the place of my greatest success, and so I try to stick with that more than anything, because that's been the place where I've really been able to thrive, is on Facebook

And I spent a lot of money for some stuff or even just giving money away in the cash app, too, that I'm like, does this person even get it? Who did I send money to? I had to pull back from that. Facebook seems to be the one that I'll probably keep because honestly, like today there's three birthdays on Facebook. If it wasn't for Facebook telling people their birthday, I wouldn't know half these people's birthdays. I'm not joking

We closed on this. We got this many contracts signed. They'll show the results. They don't have to market on the social media. I know another friend who's a consultant for she gets huge contracts to consult with huge organizations. You wouldn't even know it if you didn't know her. So the idea that we need Facebook to post or for our business, I think is wrong

I've come across some people here that are posting some really racist misogynistic or just being flat out untruthful or mean towards other people, and a few of those people have gotten under my skin, and I said anything, and I'm like, you know what? It's not worth my time. No Internet fight has ever changed anybody's mind. Um I mean, what? I post. Who am I? This is this is me. This is the type of person I am

Yeah, I got followers, but I don't see where any of these things online translated to something tangible. Maybe a couple of people bought my book. I definitely bought a lot of stuff from a lot of people on the app. But I can't even think where I met people from these apps. Either they came to see me or I met them or it was a conference in person. That's kind of a big deal to me. Like, are you real? Can we be real?

I don't remember if she ever acknowledged getting it. Like, we were communicating in the IG DMs. I remember saying, your book is on the way. I didn't hear thank you. I think I emailed her and said, did you get it? And mind you, this was probably really 2020, early 21. So it's been a few years. I couldn't even take that lady's name if I had to think about it, but never acknowledged that she got it

And there were really artists. Most of the people that I knew or I saw and interacted with at that time were photographers, literal photographers. I still follow a few of those people, but I never get to see their posts because of all the clutter of other stuff. Right. So I can say social media in general has progressed to be the place to not really be only specifically social, but to promote. Promote yourself, promote egos, promote thoughts, promote right

I forgot to say and prematurely happy birthday. And now that I know that you're a Gemini I'm not sure if you're into that kind of stuff. But now that I know, now I understand why we click. Okay, that's all I had to say happy birthday, before it even happens. Next week. I'm sure you'll have a pulse. I hope you have a pulse

So I find myself in this weird catch 22 of like, I know social media will can help build my business, but at the same time, I don't want to feed into that ecosystem. So it's tough. It's tough. But anyway, yeah, I really had such high hopes for Clubhouse I had such high hopes for clubhouse and really enjoyed the early days when I was on. I joined in January of 21 and fell in love with it

But anyway, thanks for the birthday shout out. You did say that Gemini's have opinions. I just want to say we have opinions, but we also have facts, right? We're not known to lie and embellish, so most of the stuff we say is true. It's true. It is facts. So thank you very much for chiming in and sharing your opinion. I was on Clubhouse, like I said, for almost three years now. Well, two and a half years

If you're going to put humans in a room or on an app and not censor them, then people are going to say whatever they want. And so we just have to figure out take the meat and throw out the bones, I guess. But anyway, pretty cool to hear from someone who was on the inside of clubhouse and what your opinions are. And so I'm not totally wrong. I'm not totally just giving up an app for no reason

I'm basically killing two swells with 1 st, and I'm going to invite Auntie L because she chimed in on something as well. In fact, I'll get to that. Let me reply to this. Well, first, so a few reasons why I'm no longer on clubhouse, and IG is next. Well, for those that know me, even those on Swell, I'm pretty sure you've heard me say this many times before that I'm not into social media

@NeophyteSavant

I've been able to get a job without it, so I haven't cared. So, yeah, some of the platforms I've avoided, but like that Facebook one, I'll be up there because I do connect with a lot of family, a lot of former coworkers, people that I wouldn't see every day. We just not going to run into each other unless it's on the book. So I have it for that

You. Thank you for this. I was I had never heard of Clubhouse before I got on Swell. I am I i only use two forms of social media, and that's Facebook and Instagram. And I really don't even use my Instagram anymore. But I found that that Facebook. I just don't really like that anymore either. It just has gotten to be just a lot

So this is just a different type of social media. So again, thank for stopping by and chiming in and I'm glad you found value in my Clubhouse experience. Thank you so much
