Should Swell include emoji reactions?

article image placeholderUploaded by @DearAuntyAng
Now, as far as I know, Facebook is the only social media platform that offers this kind of variety of reactions. On threads, Instagram, you just simply heart a post and that's it. YouTube has a thumbs up and a thumbs down, or rather a like and a dislike. So you can choose to dislike it, but it doesn't show you how many dislikes are on the page. That was something they changed a few years ago as well

And then after a while, I just saw myself, you know, I was just wishing people happy birthdays because they wish me happy birthday. And then, you know, I just came off. You know, I'm. I'm on. I am on Instagram and I'm on X. I don't even have TikTok, but I definitely think that swell needs to stay the way it is. You know?

You can have the top every you had a height and like the thing that's currently being overloaded the most and that can be like instead of the like and dislike but cuz then in terms of like a robot, you didn't only telling it to go left or right, red or blue, you can tell the real bot red, blue, red, blue instead of going like Abcdreraedda eight because a person might hit the like button then hit the love button then dislike button

And sometimes, yes, there's some swells where you listen to and maybe you don't, you know, react to it or, you know, reply. Or maybe you, if you like, you agree with it, you click hard. Maybe if they say something you don't agree with, you just ignore it. Which I think is better than bringing emojis into it, because I think, you know, you mentioned Facebook

Hey, Calvin, thank you for chiming in. And, yes, petty is the correct word, people. I've seen people put whole posts up talking about, if you don't put a heart by my stuff, and I. You're not really my friend. And I'm like, it wasn't supposed to be that serious, y'all. But, man, kudos to you for being off of Facebook. I've been wanting to pull back for so long, and I do take breaks

Hey, the brief one. You know, I'm not familiar with Reddit. My niece goes up there all the time to ask questions, especially about her dog, as she's a new dog mommy. But I like that system of things being rated. And I wonder, too, here on swell. What? How do they use their algorithms? Now, I'm not a tech person

I see posts from people that I don't follow, and I'm like, why am I seeing this? So it's a lot more ads, a lot more things being thrown at us, less connection with our friends. I'm seeing my friends posts that are three days old, six days old. I'm like, what is going on? So it's weird. And the emojis do not add to it. It stirs up strife and people. People will get upset

But it's counter to, like, I would say, um, how human beings, you know, interact with some of these, like, non real spaces because this is social media. Like, this is a non real space. So it's strange, you know, um, I, you know, I actually thought about going to one of meetings on Wednesdays. How's everybody just going and just like seeing like what they got cooking? Cause they be showing us what they got cooking

Yeah, I definitely recommend stopping by one of the Wednesday meetings. Getting to meet I met Deb, Heidi. Those are the two that I've met. But to see people even on like, a Google Meet versus just a swell and to really get a feel for the team is pretty cool. So, yeah, if you get a chance to remember, definitely stop by one of their Wednesday meetings and get to know the people behind it. It's a pretty awesome experience

@DearAuntyAng #MsNosey

When I put my mind to something, it's just like, okay, yep, this is it. And when I made that decision, just back away. I was just able to just get away, and I didn't even feel like I was missing anything, you know? You know, besides the little, you know, birthday posts and stuff like that. But, yeah, I'm glad I was able to pull away. And your new name is Miss Nosy

YOU GOT THIS!

Excuse me, but they, but they had their own, you know, maybe they came up with their own designs, something that shows different stages, not just, like you said, the thumbs up and thumbs down. Because that's, that's really kind of. I think that's stupid myself. I think that's really stupid because you might as well just be nodding your head or shaking your head

Hey, Ange, I didn't get to view the whole thing, but I do see the title, and I'm going to say, no, we do not need those, because swill is a place for people to come and talk and to give their insight and opinions and the likes and disagrees. That's just going to be a lazy way for people. Like, okay, you just gonna like some. You know what you liking? You just gonna put sorrow on there

Hey, MJ, thanks for chiming in. You know, I'm pretty sure Facebook probably does have some sort of copyright to their sequence of emojis. Who knows? I mean, they're available for anybody to use on our keyboards, but who knows? But what I do, like, I like the idea of, like you mentioned progressive, like stars. So it reminds me of Facebook stories. So they may have a lock on that as well

Because sometimes I've had that happen on Facebook where I make a post and somebody will laugh at it and I'm like, do they need to hit the care emoji? Because, you know, I'm light hearted. So I do incorporate humor in a lot of things that I do or just light heartedness, but I was like, that wasn't funny, but to them it could have been funny, right? So it was confusing. Sometimes you're like, what do they mean by that?

A lot of it is also cultural and region specific because I have used emojis in different. I'll give an example. So there is a business that I work with internationally. They use my services I offer and because it's been three years in the running now, in my mind, as we prepare for the next package of sessions, they're buying for me and we've communicated about it in my mind. I'm at a point where I can include in the email an emoji

But I used to listen to somebody that was just kind of like, tooting their horn or slamming people, you know? And so I wouldn't. I wouldn't like those. What about the suggestion that I made that was responded to by ange that said multiple hearts or like five hearts and you choose which one. Or like she said, you just keep hitting the heart. Kind of like on Facebook. You know how a bunch of hearts go strolling up on the. On the independent
