Passing the Speed Limit: A Collective Birthday Month Memoir

Just for FunMusicOther

"…It's September 2020. And this is my birthday month. And I had a thought about something that feels like collective memoir, where I take the month. And I reflect and I think about all the things going on in life in this particular month, kind of a compressed collection of ideas, inspirations, reasons for being. And I could do this in a sort of a diary with a pen. But I could also do it on Swell.…"

"…And I realized it's because throughout my travels on the Internet, Facebook and Reddit different places. I've been oftentimes when someone submits their own song or and this is more to the point when they submit the song of some friend of theirs or something like that. It's not quite the same experience that I just had listening to yours. So now I sound like that judgmental, Linda. It's like I'll sit back on the Internet and determine who's talented, but I'm not doing that.…"

"…And I just love how it's like scientifically proven and researched, and I'll link to it. So I want to look at it again myself because I was reminded of that when I'm rising and choosing to be grateful and speak gratitude and speak love into the world. That our words, our thoughts are written word, what we write has power in our tensions, our prayers and everything has the power to form beauty and clarity and crystals out of water and ice. So thank you for sharing this.…"

I should figure out a way in the next 40 years to camp with Neil Degrassi Tyson, so that's one of my birthday wishes, and maybe it will come true. So that's a thought for the day. And yet there's been periods really recently, actually, where I've been so judgmental of myself because I haven't grown musically the way I want it. And I'm kind of stuck at one level, and it does me no good in terms of that narrative in my head. It's so unproductive.…"

That is just the way I am because of combination of not just genetics but of lived experiences that only happened because of circumstances I was thrown in at different random times. So I guess for me I want to remember in this moment that we're all wonderfully imperfect and walking experiments of what it means to be human at any given time and being awake to the fact that it's not about belonging or not belonging.…"

And then when you're talking about the code and like when you think about it, the more messy that code is, the more places you can point out on the globe for where you know your ancestors have come from.
