For Gay Pride: Language is Clumsy But We Can Find Grace

article image placeholderUploaded by @DBPardes
And I hope that your life is full of joy and intimacy and all that good stuff, but it's hurtful not because they want to be mean, but because after so many years, in my case, oh my God, almost a half a century really put that in perspective. You want things to shift and change

Inspired by our legacy of strength and kindness

I think that's what could be good when the work began to just try and kind of disassociate that importance, that sense of importance, in order to celebrate yourself, because we don't want to die having lived our lives waiting for that acceptance

And then those that don't, we can have love for them and generosity for them and keep them in a space, like I mentioned before, where they're not going to hurt you, but the way you can still love them. Everybody needs to have this magic power. And thank you guys for just reminding me that there's such a baseline here for decency and love and respect that we bring to each other. And that's just awesome

Sorry. I think I love what you said. Hi, I have a daughter. Came out about a year ago and it was when you said that your mother said that it struck something to me because it wasn't easy and it was so amazing that the courage that it takes to do that to come out. I went to a grieving period and I got all these groups on Facebook, support groups for parents too. And I was having my pity party or whatever

The lady who mentioned how it's always kind of a shock when it's like your parents that they struggle with that type of thing because like you said, you look to your parents for acceptance, for love, for accepting you no matter what. And when you see that, it's sort of like they fall from Grace in a way and you realize they're human. Oh, no, not the human thing. That can be really tough

Hey, Lindsey, I was able to hear you through your tears. First of all, what a position you're in and how generous you are for chiming in here from your perspective. And, you know, it's very interesting to think about people who have to navigate the emotions of two people and not one person. And I think that's what parenting is so intensely about is trying to separate your own heartbeat from the heartbeat of that child that you created. And that distance is sometimes not understood

thank you 🙏🏻

And I think so much of what my life would be like if we lived in a world where there wasn't assumptions about how anyone is as far as who or how they love or how they experience themselves when it comes to gender, but where it was just a lot more like we'll see let's see what happens. I'm going to stay open to who this person is and who they might become. That world sounds a lot more fun to me

I love the world you paint where there's a kind of a like I love the expanse of that. And I just want to say what that conjures up for me is such flexibility and curiosity and humility when someone says, that's interesting. And I feel the density of your word so deeply
