The Future of Data + the Earth = HOPE | JT Mudge : Master of Science in Foresight

In fact, JT notes that commercial fishing is such a dangerous profession and how can we create a future that is good for the animals, good for the environment, and also good for the people? That's the kind of stuff that JT tackles. So let's get into that first. Actually, JT, can you help us understand the work you do on a basis of collaboration and consulting?

But for some nations, that's absolutely necessary. So when we think about where to put our efforts and what the problem sets are and you call this dangerous profession, right, something that I always say as well, it is extremely fishing is an extremely dangerous profession, and not just for the fishers, but for everybody involved, including the animals, right? So, again, tying that back to economics. It's dangerous to the political structure and economics of many island nations

Like, I know you have to sort of socialize what you create so that it makes sense to people, and that's what good reports are doing. But when you have to communicate down a chain of people, chain of command, what's that cycle like? Who's making those decisions? And have you been a part of something? Maybe you can illuminate this by saying, yeah, we had this situation

Is it going to be used in an ethical way? Is it going to be used to help me? And I think especially when you look at fishers or you look at buyers of fish, right, suppliers. I think there's a real fear around what are you going to do with that data? Right? Are you going to use it just to do fisheries management or in some way, shape or form?

You know, what I find fascinating about your response is how, you know, prevalent the word trust is specifically and knowing that trust is a cornerstone for relationship building. The mystery of creating trust and building trust kind of stems from our knowing that you need continuity and you need a sense of, um, mutual respect in that continuity. So people feel a flow of information, a flow of curiosity, and that they're being listened to

And that is absolutely part of it. We need to teach, we need to bring in critical thinking skills k through twelve. That should be something that's just as important as composition, right? That's just as important as algebra or any of these other topics that we spend so much time on, we don't spend enough time on. How do I analyze information? How do I decide whether or not I believe in that or not?

@jtmudge 🙌🙌🍿

I mean like, what kind of alliances do you really cherish and that you really want to nurture and things that really are going to mark that you made an impact on these big relationships that will ultimately sustain and make shifts in the world. What's that vision for your own career? And how do you check in with yourself to make sure you're on that path? Because I've always fascinated

To make these critical thinking kind of choices, to figure out how to be okay with value shifting and what they believe in. There's not to be what I believe in. Right. But we shouldn't always just rest. There's not a goal line in anything that we're trying to accomplish. It's a process. It's a continual process. It's a growth. It should always be part of growth. Right

@jtmudge make time for stuff to happen

Wow. I just like I had a little master class on how to do a balance of work, play philosophy, live, and I just want to end with reiterating what you just said, making time for stuff to happen. I love that. Thank you
