The First AI Girlfriend is on the market: Are we ready for this?

article image placeholderSnapchat influencer launches an AI-powered 'virtual girlfriend' to help 'cure loneliness'
She has vowed to fix this with Karen AI. Karen went on to say that she had worked with some of the world's leading psychologists and that this will help undo trauma, rebuild physical and emotional confidence, and rebuild what was taken away in the pandemic. Now, with this AI version of herself, it will allow her fans to enjoy private, personalized conversations with the AI version of the influencer

In our effort to help toxic men, are we almost adding to the toxicity that already exists in our culture and these unrealistic expectations around women that are really a falsity? Yes, we have a social skills deficit, but at the core of that is a genuine lack of authentic connection. And I'm not sure how this app gets to the root of that problem

Because if you exercise these muscles, so to speak, with the AI, you're exercising it with a piece of technology, not a real human. So you can only have so much depth of understanding of really interacting with a fellow human. It's like a starting point, like I said, but not an ending point. I see also potential for this going horribly, terribly wrong

You. Hey, Phil. Very interesting post. I wanted to comment here because actually this is not the first AI girlfriend on the market, at least in the world, maybe in America, but this has been something that has actually existed overseas in Asia for quite a while. I remember there was a show called The Darknet that was from, I think, 2016, and it explored the dark web and different things that have come out of this digital age that we lived in

Hi Christina. I saw that you just commented on this like basically at the same time as me and I started listening to your swell and you brought up Japan. And I just wanted to tell you that that's what I was talking about here. Because I was saying in my swell, I remember years ago coming across a bunch of stuff about how Japan was sort of leading the way with this sort of technology. And it was years ago that they had already made some pretty serious progress

But I also know that we still don't, and I don't think we'll have one truly anytime soon that's going to replace engagement from a human being. Their voice, their tone, the way they phrase things, the way Theo have certain slangs or sayings, which in turn change their tones and things like that. There's still no replacement for the real thing and there never really will be

The kids are so they just so involved with these video games. They're in there. They don't know how to get out of those games. If you leave them in there, they'll stay there 24 hours a day. If there was 24 hours a day, which, if you add it, there is, but it will be a reality where you'll be inside a bubble fantasizing that you actually are in that world talking to these AI intelligent artifacts

Robot AI and agree with you here and there

I don't know. I just want to say that some people talking to something that's not there is actually enjoyable. If you're lonely and it's not real, but you're getting theo satisfaction, like someone out there cares for you. I've been there, done that. I just think that for dollar a minute, you're better off talking to a friend. A real friend is for free. But anyway, that's my belief

I genuinely think we are not ready for this. Before I explain myself, I'll just give some contextual demographic information. I'm a 29 year old single woman based out of Gujarat, India, working as a solo entrepreneur in the book publishing industry. Personally feel like Theo internet has affected our ability to form interpersonal relationships
