And my question to you, Dustin, to drop us right into your reality is can you talk about a project or a story that you recently worked on or even the distant past that really captures why you do what you do? Whether it be the experience you had telling it or the impact the actual story had on other people? I would just love to kick us into this conversation by hearing something in your career that really stands out for you. Welcome to swell again

And you have to think really deeply about it and give a whole talk about it. So I've done that, and I'm not going to give you the whole talk. In fact, I'm going to give you a totally different answer this time because what I really love about being a journalist, what I never get tired of, no matter how frustrated I am with the job or the industry, is the permission that it gives you to just ask questions and to learn something new every single day

Hi, Dustin. Thank you so much for being here. It was really lovely to hear your response and also to hear that you read The Overstory. I loved that novel and asked a lot of really important questions that have stuck with me since I finished reading it. I am primarily a fiction writer, and I do nonfiction and multimedia work as well. And I actually just started working on my first nonfiction book

So I'd say the first thing is just remember that you know how to write and to not use research as yet another yet another way to just procrastinate on your writing. Writing is tough enough as it is. As I said in the first thing that I really love the research. I love asking questions, and I tend to overdo it

@dustin thank you!

It reminded me of that, and I really appreciate you reminding me to sort of lean into what I already know and feel comfortable with and trust the other parts with the research that I also can tend to get super excited about and just want to read book after book. And I need more time to take notes and try to piece things all together
