Soccer legend Pele passes away at 82

article image placeholderBrazilian soccer legend Pelé dies at 82
He was one of the footballers next to Maradona, Messi and Ronaldo really that were household names. Whether you were in his home nation of Brazil or halfway across the world, pele really revolutionized what it meant to be a global superstar, but also to be a player at the highest level. A very famous pale quote reads as follows I was born to play football, just like Beethoven was born to write music and Michelangelo was born to paint

So highly recommended for anybody who is not familiar with Pele, or even if you think you know about Pele and have not seen the movie. Definitely worth a watch

Influence in the US

Everybody knew who Pele was, and the fact that he was playing on an American team team brought a renewed interest in the game of soccer. Now, prior to 1974, and perhaps coincidentally, youth soccer programs did not exist in the United States. It wasn't until that 1974 and then when pale coming in to the United States and playing, it really drove certain cities and communities to develop youth soccer programs. And I actually played soccer one year in the late 70s. We were a terrible team

So that's really sad that history seems to have, at least for the new kids. They don't even know who Pele is. And that's really sad. But rest in peace, Pele. Greatest soccer player ever. Rest in peace

You hear about players like Johan Croy, Beck and Bauer and of course, Maradona and Pele and these names, they're figures in the sporting world that are so large, and they have the ability to just live in the public memory for such a long time. And you bring up someone like Mohammed Ali or somebody like Bruce Lee, both heroes of mine growing up as well. My dad was a boxer and had a fighting background, so those two guys were discussed nearly every single day in my home
