News: What's it like to be unemployed right now?

article image placeholderNearly 900,000 filed new state unemployment claims last week.
And with winter coming, we have to assume that restaurants will be back in a familiar position that we found ourselves in last winter when all of this began. Obviously, some places will be more impacted than others, depending on where you live in the world. But here where I am more on the East Coast of the United States. I definitely am concerned for the workers who are already not making as much as they are used to and many barely surviving on unlivable wages

Hey, Rachel, thanks for posting this. I have been following sort of the unemployment patterns in the country, really, for the last about seven months since this whole thing started. And I really don't know what's going to happen. And I'm deeply worried for a number of reasons. And you kind of touched on a few of them. But in a place like California where our weather is much better than the East Coast, tourism is sort of picked back up a little bit

@CaliGooner thank you

I feel like I'm failing my family. Like, what if I can't take care of them? What if we get kicked out of our apartment, all of these really intense worries and stresses that you can imagine feeling in that situation when the pressure just grows with every job application you don't hear back from every interview that leads to a company hiring someone in house

Feb for next stimulus https://s.swell.life/SSDc6BB9FbTslGl

Connell personally, nothing to do with the Senate or the country, but rather Mitch McConnell personally, because if he tries to push through a stimulus bill right now, then post addictions, irrespective of whether he is part of the majority or the minority, he will not get to be the leader because that's how John Boehner, Paul Rowan all made enemies in the party. So he would rather not bring such a bill right now for negotiation

Suda, thank you so much for sharing this. It's pretty revealing of what is most important to some of leadership right now, and also alarming to me because for folks who have been unemployed since the start of all of this, and as we've seen there being more industries that are being impacted by the pandemic continuing, I don't understand what they think is going to happen in reaction to this. I am only imagining that there's going to be a huge backlash

I mean, I live in California, so it's always been hard for the middle class to make ends meet, but right now, it is particularly difficult. I've had to go back to my mom in light of a divorce. And I'm also going through, like, everything just kind of happened at one time. For me, it's rough, but I think everybody is going through their own site, something. You know what I mean?
