Body dismorphia and the Study Abroad

article image placeholderUploaded by @chlomonsta
I've just really been trying to focus on the importance of looking at movement rather than looking at how many calories I'm burning on a treadmill or anything like that. So that's just kind of like for me, that's been always really important to just make sure that my body is moving. And during this trip, I really have not been able to move my body as much as I normally do, and that has obviously subsequently changed my body in the way that it is

And I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it also affects women even more in terms of their body shape changing. And that might ruffle some feathers. You might disagree with that. But I just think just from my own personal experience, the friends that I've traveled with and family that have traveled, I know when I travel, I do, toward the end of the trip have a bit of an itchy feeling of maybe eating more takeout or stuff like that

So I'm happy about that in terms of just like, as you get older, though, as well, growing up, you're like, oh, my God, when I was 15, I could run all day and play or I guess my play is the right word and just eat a hamburger every single day and maintain that same weight. As I've gotten older, I've just realized what actually helps nourish, me

I also wanted to give a little bit more context to like I definitely also grew up playing a lot of sports and had a very active lifestyle growing up and my mum did prepare all my meals and she was quite strict with us on reducing restricting process salt and sugar

And when you go back to your normal routine, your normal life, then that's when you should be focusing on your health and exercise and what you eat. It's just hard to remember that when you're on vacation, you have to enjoy yourself. You only live once. It's going to be such a small part of your life

I completely relate to this. Thank you for making this. Well, I think in the past couple of years, when I've gone on vacation with my family, it's been a little bit more difficult for me because we eat differently on vacation. We get a lot more more snacks, a lot more treats, stuff like that

And then I'm like, wait, why am I worried if a boy is going to like me based on weight that I've gained from vacation? Like, you know what I mean? That's like such a warped thing. And I could go totally into how the beauty industry is simply run by focusing on people's insecurities and then framing it as like, you need to do this, and then subtle dialects so boys will like you or whoever your target relationship status person is
