The Ethics of Thrift Shopping

article image placeholderUploaded by @chlomonsta
But the fast fashion industry is extremely detrimental to the environment, used a lot of water, a lot of carbon, a lot of packaging, shipping, online shopping can be it's definitely a big source of carbon emissions and such. And so obviously, the alternative is thrift shopping. So thrift shopping is super awesome because you can go and you can go purchase clothes that people have donated. And so you're not necessarily really contributing to the carbon footprint. That is the fast fashion industry

Like having an all around solution, as everybody knows just hard because somebody's going to be impacted some way negatively and not just because they're feeling they're hurt it's because something very real is impacting their lives. As you're working on this solution, I think what you mentioned is very real that people who rely on things like they're shopping for more affordable clothing will lose access to that venue because more people are jumping wagon who don't necessarily need that, but do want to save a buck

And there obviously are people who can't afford to buy fast fashion or clothing that is brand new. But I don't think there is ever going to be a lack of clothing. They're shopping. There's always going to be that opinion where it's like, I'm taking away something from someone who might need it more than me. But in the end, I think that their shopping really only has benefits because it is promoting second hand clothing

I guess that to find the balance, and there is balance. But we all come from such complicated lives, we don't know. What does it mean to be strapped for cash and what circumstances lead us to that? It's really interesting conversation. Thank you

Thrift shopping is something that I love, too. I mean, I think it's so good for the environment. It's so good for your pocket. It's so good to have clothes. Instead of paying a $100 for one blouse, you have ten blouses. $100. Nothing like it. Right? Good for the pocket. Good for the environment, good for your closet. Good for your mental health
