What does it take to build resilient teams in the start up world?

article image placeholderUploaded by @Wordsmith
So when we were talking earlier, you were talking about a couple of burning issues that a lot of founders are facing in the startup world. What are these? Can you outline a couple of these issues for us today and we'll take it on from there?

There are a lot of reasons for it. So let's get into a journey of a startup. The founders have a great idea to solve an existing problem and they come out with a solution. So in the process they could be either bootstrapped or a VC funded organization. So during the initial stage they do pilot projects and they're confident of monetizing the idea by solving the problem. The energy is too high in the teams because each one feels an ownership of contributing to the society

Thank you subhash for coming on to Swell. And yes, we like to call this Swell cast. So, coming back to what we were discussing, I think communication is at the heart of, I think, the entire process. And recently I also happen to read an article which talks about leadership communication. This was an article by Sharpawagh which I happened to see on LinkedIn. And he emphasizes why leadership communication is very important in terms of not just communicating the vision to internal and external stakeholders

The other scenario is the founders would have worked with the second line leaders by default, they would have become the second line leaders in the organization. They would have worked with these guys so much that they are too overconfident on them. But the scenario is the second line leaders would have been work so closely and would have been told dependent on the leaders, that once they been passed the battery to them, they are not able to perform on their own

It is indeed a delicate balancing act. Yeah. So very interesting and thank you for these insights, Subhash ah, moving on to the next, ah, aspect which is about conflict resolution ah, and ah I think when teams work together, together invariably, people being people, we face these conflicts day in, day out and I think somewhere the kind of culture that the organization sets in terms of being able to handle this is very important. So would love to hear your insights on this as well

Or the other thing what they would do is they become judgmental with one of the impacted individuals due to their earlier emotional connect which results in a biased view for others. So the impacted fee people feel let down and in the long run it affects the organization. Nowadays leaders sometimes do not want to communicate straight to protect their own self image. So from our experience we have found that when the people work together for a longer time solving a problem, there's an emotional bonding

@Subhashcoach

So that's very refreshing and interesting to understand. Moving on to the third, your challenge that you spoke about, which is decision making. So how is this becoming a concern and what are the workarounds for this particular issue?

The reason could be they are scared about the visibility in the cost of failing due to the information age. However, they are accountable to take decisions, but they are too self conscious about themselves. Sometimes the emotional bonding between the leaders and the team members is so close that leaders do not want to be straight and communicate though their team members expect it. We find people expect their leaders to take decisions and convey to them even if it's a bad news. However, leaders fail to do so

So people are the foundation. So it has been really an enriching discussion for me personally and I think for many others who would like to explore this element, which is rarely discussed out there. So I look forward to more such posts from you on the empower swell cast. And thank you so much for this and look forward to many more such interactions. Bye
