New social platform launching soon

article image placeholderDonald Trump is creating his own social media network that will go live in a few months
So a lot of interesting things to see. Also, what kind of format will it be? Very much like Twitter? Because that's where Trump has been so deft and successful. And will they try exploring other kinds of technologies and approaches? I'll be curious to see how much role audio plays in that, given the popularity of audio in new social platforms. So, yeah, this will be an interesting platform to watch out for

How long will this take to get to 10m users? #socialmedia #politics https://s.swell.life/SSSK1z5aaZjY0Mx

That will cost hundreds of millions to build a stable platform.

So I think Donald has a little speed bump problem ahead. The technology will be infuriating it's got to throw money at it. I'm sure there's somebody willing to throw a couple of billion at it just to stay on his good side. But what a waste. What made it work on Twitter is that you had both right and left, and the engagement happened because it was so polarizing with more people. I would think more people objecting to his tone, his tenor, his message

😔 @arish

You sound so even keeled and curious and grounded. And I love you for that. And I have such a different response, which is, oh, my God. I'm so not wanting this to emerge. I don't think it will be filled with an even playing field of rational voices. I think it'll be a bastion of hateful language and of just terrible misinformation and conspiracy theories. And I'm just so sad. And I've just come from a very specific place

@DBPardes social will be regulated

It's happening in Europe as a really strong discussion, mainly because of all the AIS and the bots and the misinformation it's coursing through concerning COVID or Brexit. So there's a strong resolution in the minds of many European parliamentarians that start this thing to control social media networks. And it's happening in the Congress, the American Congress as well

So yeah, I'm watching. Very Interestingly, interested as well. But for me, even if you just leave aside the politics completely from it, there are so many interesting questions that it raises that it will be an interesting kind of experiment and will be worth watching from a business perspective. From a technology perspective, from a skill perspective, regulation up, it will be something for all of us can watch and learn from

@DBPardes

Hey, Deborah, I know exactly where you're coming from on this. How would you think of it as this way? If such a social platform comes about, won't it improve the quality of the discourse and all the other the social platforms

We shall see...@arish @topgold

Arish, I think you're right. But to your point earlier, will it make all these networks be more siloed and more differentiated? And will we have that problem again of Echo Chambers, so I don't know. I don't know. I'm happy that we're here talking on swell. Honestly, because I still feel like true discourse has to include the rawness of people's voices to their DNA and their fingerprint and their person, their humanness

This is super interesting, because I have over the years made sure to be friends with people from the whole spectrum and to stay open minded to people from the whole spectrum. And at least with the platform that I'm developing with a bunch of other colleagues, more cooperatively, creating more specific engagement platform
