Watching Now: The Queen's Gambit on Netflix ๐ŸŽฌ

article image placeholderUploaded by @bowie
There's a really interesting, complex and imperfect yet powerful female protagonist. The situation is really interesting, and the Queen's Gambit has to do with chess and Grand Masters. And there's travel. We're in Mexico City right now where I'm watching, and it's just really fun and also kind of dark and a bit of I don't know, thriller isn't quite the right word, but there are elements that keep you on edge, which I personally love, and it's show

They're either real self destructive, or they seem to be real self destructive, highly sexual or destructive, outwardly destructive. But most tend to be inwardly destructive and highly sexual and considered odd in their day. But it's it looks like it's going to be fine. Thanks for posting that

And just seeing the whole social world of chess at these tournaments is just really fun. And also the different cultures of the nations and them playing like, right now, I'm only about halfway through the first season, but they're starting to introduce Russian players. And obviously Russia has really incredible chess players. So yeah, if you start watching it definitely come back. And let's let me know how you're feeling once you start it

What do you think of the ending?

I completely gobbled this miniseries up this weekend. It's the most engrossed I've been in a show in a while. And Robin, I looked after hearing your swell about it potentially being based off a novel, and it looks like it was based off a novel from 1983. Also called The Queen's Gambit by the writer Walter Tevis, who I've never heard of actually

Must watch!

Oh, I am so with you on this one. I loved it. You had said, you gobbled it up. That's exactly what I did to hey, I was at the beginning of the final season of S*** Creek when my brother recommended this show, so I said, okay, I'll put that on hold. And I'm so glad I did. Beautiful. The production values, some of the camera shots. I actually stopped reround to watch again

Yes @EssephVee thanks @rachel

One of the things I love about this show also is that there's no recipe for one's life. And sometimes circumstances thrust us into sort of this paradigm that is a good life in its own way. And it really presses us to look at the norms versus the deviance and the deviations. Sorry for the word deviance, although that was interesting slip. So it's good for us to look at how life circumstances can really sculpt a new world, a new life

Still processing how this series affected me

And I think show that she needs the kind of love and connection that we all need just as much as anyone else, even though she's a genius on some level, right? So really loved hearing all of your thoughts. And if anyone else ends up watching the show would love to hear what you think as you're watching

And not to forget Sam!

Forgot to mention Thomas Brody Sancter The Little Sam from Love. Actually, you want to say at this point, since he's 30, he's all grown up. But was he really all grown up? He still looked just like Little Sam. I just loved it. And my daughter had looked up the age differences between characters. And he was only, what, six years older, six years older than her in real life. So I thought that was pretty interesting, too. Yeah

Oh, my God, Susan, I did not realize that he is in love, actually. And you just blew my mind wide open. I recognized him from the other miniseries. Godless, that this writer and director did for Netflix that I loved, and he's in it. And it's just hilarious and so good as this young Sheriff

Hey, Robin, I totally agree with you. I think this show is very rewatchable, and I had a similar thought about wanting to rewatch it, and I don't feel that way with a lot of things. So that means that the there's definitely something special going on here, and I really want to rewatch it and kind of figure out just from a craft and story perspective, what made me like the moment where I just got hooked

So I'm thinking of you all this afternoon because the playlist that I have been jamming out to while doing my afternoon work is one that someone created for the Queen's gambit, there's so much great music in this show. So I thought I'd share it in case it would bring some joy to your afternoon as well

I haven't finished The Queen's Gambi yet, but I'm pretty close at the part where she's in Russia, I believe. But I really like the show. I really enjoy. I think Beth Harmon, the person who plays Beth Harmon and Taylor Joy. It does a great job of portraying Beth Harmon and her mannerisms and everything, and it's a really interesting show, especially since this is a spoiler alert for anyone who's listening to this
