Read Along | A Black Women's History of the United States

I've read about 2020 releases, so that's even more of a reason I think to share this book and talk about it together. So my copy should hopefully be coming in the next six to eleven days as promised by Books, where I ordered this book, and I recommend you order it from bookshop too, because Bookshop supports local bookstores, which is awesome and I am sharing a link to it here

About this book

So this weekend I got my copy of A Black Woman's History of the United States, and I'm very excited to start reading it. So I thought I'd read the description on the cover for you in case you are interested interested. So an empowering history that emphasizes the perspectives and stories of Black women to show how they are and have always been instrumental in shaping our country

Finished up to Ch 2!

I've had a chance to dive into this book a bit more over the past week, and since it is history, I've been reading it a bit more slowly as I tend to do with history, because there's lots of research end. I always want to really take it in and contextualize things, and I have a tendency when I am reading history to end up doing sort of side reading to further explore things that come up that I'm interested in

Read up to Ch 5! Juneteenth & the end of slavery

So where chapter six will be starting is in 1876 through 1955. Rather so we will soon be entering the 20th century. And I'm really curious to see what more I'm going to learn. I've already learned, earned so much through this books, so looking forward to sharing more soon. And if you happen to get a chance to begin to read it or read a bit about it, we'd love to hear your thoughts

Finished Ch 7! Lucy Parsons & Gladys Bentley

And it actually led me to reading a lot more outside of the books, because since this book is trying to cover so much history as far as just the time period, but then also many stories, not just focusing on one, it's been very easy for me to have a question go off and Google it. And the next thing you know, I read for like an hour or two about someone that I find particularly intriguing

Conclusion! This is a must read.

Among the most depressed and marginalized Black women in the United States have nonetheless routinely defied otherwise near all encompassingly negative messages, denying their right to be, to push back and demand more from the nation, from their communities, from their partners and from themselves. It's so good, highly, highly recommend this book. And if you do get a chance to read it, please come back and share your thoughts and reactions

I can listen to it probably more quick and I can read it time consuming, but it's not like a good book. I would be willing to come in and share some insight on it or listen to what you say when you do read it. Sam. Just like a great idea. I love it. Extra Zen
