What's your experience with social & emotional learning?

article image placeholderSEL matters
I began as a textbook editor, then moved into teaching at the University level, and now I work for Fall, which is all about people having easy access to sharing their voice and connecting with others to learn and grow and in my opinion, hopefully change the world together. I know that sounds idealistic, but I genuinely believe that I'm linking here to a conversation

Let's talk about why SEL matters. #education #SEL #tech https://app.swell.life/swellcast/rBNe

SEL definition

So anyone who comes across this conversation, even if you've never heard of that term before, we're on the same page and you can engage in this conversation, at least according to the Illinois State Board of Education, they define social and emotional learning as the process through which children and adults acquire the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to recognize and manage their emotions, demonstrate caring and concern for others, establish positive relationships, make responsible decisions, et cetera

My point

To put that mindset in your show that wherever you go, either in social media or in social classroom, you will be able to perform very well. Another point is where I come from. The population 65% or 67% of the population in my country are between 34 and 36. So we don't have much elderly people. So how are we going to learn this? Maybe some social media platform will help us if we are able to connect with an elderly people

Good queston...made me think 🤔

And I'm trying to be more mindful to turn social media into my tool as opposed to being commoditized by it. And I'm learning new ways of behaving with social media. But I think being supported, pushing myself to gain greater social emotional intelligence really, is that process of learning and engaging with people on a deeper level so that I can hear their experience, especially if it's different from mine and searching out perspectives that are different than mine

And both of those things are they work together so much because like you said, Steve, part of how you develop that skill set is partially through support but also partially through the own choices you have continually made to try to learn and open your mind to different ways of viewing the world and others and how you are in relationship and interconnected with all of that which feels so important to social and emotional learning
