Book News: Penguin to buy Simon & Schuster

article image placeholderPenguin Random House to Buy Simon & Schuster
So I woke up this morning to some pretty big book news, and that is that Penguin Random House is planning to buy up Simon and Schuster. This deal may end up not going through due to antitrust issues. And in general, I'm not super happy about it as a writer. And that is because if you read the article, it goes deeper into why deals like this ultimately end up being bad for any new writers and emerging voices

Why I think this is bad news for #books https://s.swell.life/SSHMlfx7U5karE9

And then all of a sudden, not writers. Readers feel this thing that, oh, my gosh, I haven't read this book. I'm not a reader enough. That kind of a thing. They control the market. And if they become bigger, the question would become, why do they not control the market and give more the smaller authors who write pretty good books, give them a voice. Why not do that?

And a claim usually by already well known names, is by trying to purchase books from smaller publishers and writers who I know that money actually does mean something to them. And the more I purchase those books, they may show up more on different sites and things like that and also trying to share them on Instagram and on Swell and all the places where I communicate with people
