What advice would you like from a published author?

article image placeholderUploaded by @bowie
Hey, swell. I am counting down the hours until I get to interview Claire Jimenez, the author of What Happened to Ruthie Ramirez, which is coming out the first week of March. I'm so excited, and I need your help. I would love to gather some questions together to ask Claire, that's representative of the community here on as well. So my prompt for you is what advice would you like from a published author? It could be anything

How do you balance content yet make it compelling?

How does one find the balance between writing what we really want to write visa vis writing for the target audience? Oftentimes these could be in conflict because when you start writing for what the audience wants you could be in a situation where you lose your voice

That is such a great question. Thank you so much for sharing. I love how you phrase the complexity and honoring what you want to work on while also being aware of there being a market and there being certain things that are selling maybe more than others. And how do you be aware of the business side while also staying true to the creative is what I heard you saying. And I think it's a really important question, so I look forward to considering it for my interviews. AMAs Claire

I would like to know, how does one navigate international distribution of books? Because that is something that a lot of us, I think, from still developing reading ecosystems struggle with when it comes to getting our books, the kind of international recognition, or the kind of, I would say international audience it deserves. So is there any advice for authors trying to crack it internationally? That's what I'd like to ask

The second question I would ask would be like, who is the person that you write for? When I write, I always think about vulnerable Latinos who are across my state that have limited Internet access. But I just love that you tagged me in this. I'm so excited for your interview. This is so cool

How to market my book to increase sales?

Do I need to pay for marketing? And then the second part of that or second part or second question. Second question. Second question is, if the answer is to pay for marketing in terms of ads and things of that nature, what is the recommended amount?

Hi. Thanks for the invitation. I would really like to know, how does one become a published author? Let's say I have written a story. Is the length of a novel. What do I need to know about the seemingly overwhelming and intimidating process of publishing your first book? Book? Your novel, your story? And secondly, how much of that process do I need to understand first before I start writing? Or is that the correct way of looking at it?

Thank you so much for this great question. Claire actually did, I think, a pretty wonderful job of answering it in our interview, so I will go ahead and invite you to that now
