What makes a good book for you?

And, of course, the divide between the popular notion of a good book and the critical one is something we've seen a lot. Books like 50 Shades of Grey or the more recent Colleen Hoover novels, while among the most popular books out there, have had at best mixed critical reviews. Clearly, when talking about books, there is no hard and fast rule about what is good or bad, or even if there's such a thing

And I love this question. And I was just talking about this with a friend who works in the publishing industry, asking her what she likes to read. And for myself, I think the kinds of books I like to read are something that is a combination of what you pointed out, like what you asked, is it a good character, good plot, good writing? I like it when all three come together

And, my goodness, it was very hard to put down, very disturbing. And what made it just really catch my attention is the fact that it was based on a true story. As far as fiction is really interesting because it kind of works together with my mood. If I'm in the mood for romantic comedy, then whatever I choose will usually be a good book

Not necessarily in terms of like, the plot, the characters or anything like that, but was it written in a way that if I were to sit down and write a book, it's similar in that aspect? And I recently did stumble upon an author who happens to be a local author for me, that does write in such a way where it's the kind of style that I would write. Now, he does specialize in horror, and I do happen to appreciate horror

@ninaberries

A book depends. It's very contextual and it depends to individual as well. And sometimes in your life you like certain types of books, the other times you like different ones. It's always and always contextual

I really look for nonfiction, I think is easier for me to look for something because you could say I want a particular topic and you look for that thing and you look for subtopics within the topic. However, fiction, you kind of have to read to even begin to know what you're looking at because there are different genres and a lot of tropes that are used, so things can kind of become repetitive. So I like to bounce around between genres if I can
