article image placeholderUploaded by @Binati_Sheth
Remember how I said India is reading more books? Yay, India is reading more books. The link in the description is a post by Anish Chandi who happens to be one of India's best literary agents in terms of getting big time publishing deals alongside syndication deals or movie and TV ads adaptation deals. What we are observing within publishing ecosystem within the publishing ecosystem in India is there's an increasing demand in paperback and printed copies of books. There's an increasing demand in regional language content

Hi Binati. I'm so, so happy to hear this and I also looked up the links that you shared of Anisha's share on LinkedIn. I think this is a wonderful way to start the new year with this heartening news and to know that books still thrive and people love reading. It's a really, I would say positive, optimistic way to start the new year

@Wordsmith I am recommending using Swell for author discovery 😁

Interesting, interesting comments from me in this regard would be I'm genuinely using swell as an author discovery platform, wherein instead of hearing like a prerecorded video or like a three hour podcast or like a dragon or review on the book and the author, I simply get to listen in on a conversation between one of the author liaisons as well. People like you and the author. Right? In tapping into this conversation, there's, I think an element of voyeurism which probably activates itself

That would also be an interesting take, not necessarily have to be a review, so let me know what you think about that. But thank you so much for your response

So I do not understand this strange paradox that the books are selling in huge numbers and people are reading less and less. So maybe this entire sales figures, like some of the film box office figures could be with a big question mark. Hope I am wrong. For the sake of and for the economic upliftment of all the writers, wish you all the best. Keep posting newer things. It's always a delight to hear you. Thank you

So now bands and Nobles is not going to stock as as a direct consequence of that, they are not going to stock paperbacks from newer authors and authors who have not published their merit in terms of preorders or past successes. That's very very bad news for American authors. We are not seeing any attendance of this sort being put in Indian markets. Whether it is Crossword or Landmark or Blossom or all of these popular bookshops. I think Odyssey, the one in Chennai is also doing some fabulous things

So I think that is also what is happening in that many people are not admitting to what kind of book they're reading. But yeah, this is something from my side. Hope you take it as what it is, which is some of the observations that we have noticed within Indian book purchase and reading habits. Because the kind of books that have been purchased and the kind of books that have been talked about, there's like a massive difference there
