Bad hire or a bad manager?

article image placeholderUploaded by @BasTalk
Or if you're a people manager, the same, would you think that it's nothing, it's something which is beyond your control or something that you could have done something about? Love to hear some of your thoughts. This is your host, Ian. You were listening to bus talk

🤔 Are bad hires bad because you are a bad manager? Or are they bad hires because the system is bad? Or did the process let them down? #people

Leader response

I don't work with this person who's going to have to work with the person or the frontline staff. So I would engage them in the interview. So when I did interviews, they were about 2 hours long, and I didn't care if it was for a nursing position or a secretary position. I sat with them for a portion of the time for Q and A. I would have someone in their role sit with them and interview them and ask them questions

Subordinate response

And you, as the person in charge, have to figure out how do you inspire or motivate that person to get the work done? And I tell that story when someone asks, what had you get into leadership? And I was like, I usually respond, I've been a leader ever since I've been in middle school. My first leadership position was watching my brother
