Pandemic Portrait

article image placeholderUploaded by @babujani
Hi during the time of Corona, I embarked on various photographic projects. I had a lot of time on my hands, so it just seemed like the perfect time to do it. One project involved photographing other photographers who are sheltering in place. It was a spin off of my project I had done earlier, where I photographed all kinds of folks doing the same thing

@babujani the face obscura 🤔

I always wonder when you obscure a face with an object like you did with Sarah. It just says so much to me that you really are not asking us to obsess about this woman's facial features that you want us to see her entire context. And it's a really strong decision. Was that something you said to yourself as you saw the bar crossing her face across it kind of centers around, like, down the face and across the face? Was that a conscious move?

And second of all, because it's a pandemic portrait. I generally was shooting these photographers wearing a mask, but in this case, because she was behind a cage which represented the pandemic. I decided not to shoot her with a mask, and I did make very sure to have her eye appear very strongly between the bars. So if you Zoom in, you can see that eye is very present. Thanks for your question. Hope I answered to your satisfaction
