Is religion still relevant?

article image placeholderWhat does modernity mean in the Indian context?
Transcendence means you rise above all of that, and your heart and soul feel connected to a higher power, to a divinity, if you will. All of us have experienced that through, or at least most of us might have experienced that through movements like Sufism, Chand, Bhatti. I think the older religions were started because some exceptional individuals experienced transcendence in their consciousness and shared their beautiful ideas with other people

It's a very rich tradition, a very rich cultural and social tradition, and I am privileged to be a part of it. But I'm more spiritual than I am ritualistic or traditional, because I think rituals and traditions are for people who are not or who do not have a tendency for transcendence or who do not rise above the daily grind and connect with divinity at a spiritual level. So, complicated topic. I don't want to offend anybody

I'm one of them. So I know that when I want to have a sublimely connected time to the world, I do it through ritual. It might not be ritual that is connected to a particular religion, but it is ritual. Religion to me is people's need for control and for community. One is bad, one is good. The control part is bad, the community is good. So I try to focus on religion and its ability to help people connect together in the most beautiful way

That's where I was coming from, if not transcendence. I think I should be using the word upliftment, connection and upliftment. But anyway, I fully accept your point. I fully take your point that rituals do help you feel uplifted and transcendent, too, because the point is the same. The point of religion is the same, that you should feel closer to God. And God god gives you validation

But I think for people to try to premiere, trying to decide which religion, in essence, is more superior than the others, I think that's where we lose people. We represent love and fairness. You know, that's part of faith based religion that we're getting away from. And great, great, swell, and thank you
