Morning Coffee - A Peaceful Transition To Death Wish

But I can't help but reflect on the fact that there is a more profound lesson here. And that is how shockingly unprepared our system was for the arrival of a lawless demagogue. How that if everything were stacked just the right way, there would simply be no way to end his trampling over our laws and our institutions and how there would be no penalty to pay for those who helped him. I bet you never thought that would be the case, did you?

Demagogues and Fail Safes

But that's a whole different story. When you're studying it in history class and things like that, you're like, okay, civil War 18. Six, one to five. Yeah, something like that. That's the last time I heard about the word Civil War. Maybe I was watching a movie about Lincoln. And then the words civil war came up. But the words civil war never came up in relation to the current state of affairs

Hello. Hey, Joe. Hey, guys. Yeah. I would have to agree with you last night listening to what he said. We've heard him say before that he wasn't going to transition power peacefully. But I think last night was the first 1st time that the way that he said it and the way that people are talking, it could become a reality. And the chances of a civil war seem like they are becoming more and more likely, which to me, is absolutely beyond terrifying

But as I'm saying all of this, I'm wondering, will we actually see any sort of mobilization from people if there isn't a transition of the power, will people actually do anything to try and take back our democracy, or will it simply be? I don't like Trump. We'll get him in the next four years, because if that's the case, I hate to break it to everybody here

It's safer. So traditionally or historically, Democrats already voted by mail a lot more than Republicans. So now we have a situation where maybe double the normal rates will be voting by mail, where on the flip side, Republicans have always had a tendency to vote in person because they believe in mail fraud. But also, Trump has been saying to do that to double down on that. Right

Taylor, thank you. That is what I was hearing as well. Was that red Mirage. And that makes sense. Thank you so much for explaining that. And now I understand how that would work with the I actual Trump supporters or Republicans voting in person versus all of us mailing in the ballot. So I can see where that would have to take a couple of days. And now that makes sense why Trump is saying it's. No, I'm not going to accept the results

And so the issue is if you were to mail in your vote, let's say November 1, it's done. It's not going to get there in time. It'll get there November 22 or December 22 or whatever. Or maybe it'll get there on an auspicious day, like Christmas or December 25. But who gives enough, right? Because like you said, it's not going to matter because Trump is going to say, hey, this is it. All the votes are in

In some sense, this is a strategy that the Trump campaign is employing in the red States. This news was leaked by the Atlantic about a day or so ago. And if you want to know more, just read the article that I posted yesterday. I'm linking it here. The loyal electors is seriously frightening move. It has people in the Congress worried

Also to put it in perspective, if I remember the numbers that he told me yesterday, I think 26 States are red, 22 are blue, and the remaining four are even. So. If you stacked the red States with loyal electors, you have more than a majority on the Electoral College side. So it is going to be very important to win. I think win and win big. I'm not sure he was explaining to me how you're going to have to win Senate

Sith before I even finished listening to your first comment, I thought came into my head about how seriously worrying this is and how much more worried I am about this than the red Mirage that I initially brought up. So thank you for bringing this to my attention. I don't think I had seen that Atlantic piece that you mentioned, but I'm going to check out both your swell and that piece not a very good indication of where things may be heading. I that it is not the case

I get the sympathy vote for Biden, but I don't know what choice we have because there's no way morally, I personally could vote for Trump. So I'm taking my neighbor across the street who's a Republican and who's on the fence and was like, I don't want to vote. And I decided I would take her because you got to vote and take the sympathy vote for Biden. At this point, the whole thing is so crazy. It's really scary

As a student of History, Dan addresses the fact that he has never in his lifetime, nor through any of his understanding of previous presidents, witnessed a guy so desperately trying to drive us into a civil war for his own personal gain. And I don't think any of the rational among us could even begin to deny that that's exactly what we're witnessing happening. And unfortunately, he has the legions of the uneducated who are willing to do his bidding

And I'd go back over to Facebook and it just looked like a dystopian nightmare. It's a trailer park, not to disparage anybody who lives in a trailer park. But you know what I'm talking about, God d*** it. But that's what it felt like. It was just like all of a sudden I would leave this place where I was having conversations in the ways that I always envision adult conversation would be

And with that, I'd like to bring up another medium that we have to consider about dropping. And that's the cable news outlets. And I bring this up based on yesterday's news when Trump refused to commit to a peaceful transition. First of all, I thought it was a very stupid question. Why are you even asking, what does it matter what he says? If he says yes and then goes against it? Is anybody going to be surprised?

Maybe in a couple of weeks, I'll be able to go on and pull that stuff off since Deactivated and not deleted. Even when I was on Facebook, I would get so frustrated with stuff that people were posting. I started making donations to Joe Biden's campaign because people would just make me so angry and I just didn't feel like arguing with them. So that was like my passive aggressive attempt to, I don't know, make myself feel better

Hey, Phil, I wanted to say I do agree with you about the 24 hours news networks. I think anytime one buries oneself in just a skewed point of view, the point of view that's driven based on a narrative. It's never a healthy thing. And I also agree with you that CNN is the least egregious out of the big three. But even at that, you can find instances online where they present things a certain way
