Guess who’s speaking?

article image placeholderUploaded by @arish
I'll take you on the steeper steamer to Liverpool and from Liverpool to London, from London, on the London and Bright Railroad to Bright and from Strike, we'll go on those Unity Cents cheaper

A little audio quiz - who is speaking in this recording describing a trip around the world?

I have no idea who's speaking in this clip, but I really love the concept of posting audio clips and having people guess who it is. Maybe add some clues in the description that it's more guessable in case it's something not everyone would know or not that obvious, but this is a really fun game. So things for sharing and whose voice is it? Vs

@ZLisbon some hints…

Hey Zara, thanks for your response. I will wait a little bit more before I reveal the answer. In terms of asking for more clues. It's a very old recording, as you must have heard. It's actually also a recording that recently became public domain as part of a new law that was passed. And that's what kind of made me stumble upon it. So an old recording and it's somebody who pretty much everyone has heard it off. So it should be guessable

I want to say that I think this is Gandhi, but I'm not 100% sure. I don't think it sounds like Gandhi towards the latter part of his life. It might be a younger one when he was studying in London, but at the time, I don't think he was super famous. Yeah, I'm a little stumped, but maybe it is Gandhi

@Taylor It’s not Gandhi :)

Good guest, Taylor, but no cigar. It's Van Gandhi and just another clue. Even though it entered the public domain here, it's not exactly 100 years old. It was up there. If you Google find out about a lot of audio clips which were recorded prior to 1923 are entering the public domain this year. As per a new legal law that has passed, it doesn't have to be exactly 100 years old. So that's just one more clue

The answer is… https://s.swell.life/SStnBa5lfBY5LZK

Alright then here's the big reveal. The answer. Okay, let me give you one more clue. This is a recording from 1980. I'm sorry, what am I saying? I'm going to add a link page will explain this recording in more detail. But does that timeline give you any further ideas? Who it might be? This is actually thought to be the oldest surviving recording of Thomas Edison's voice. The person who's speaking here is Thomas Edison
