Living with a DNA Surprise

article image placeholderUploaded by @AngieC
And so I was basically putting my foot in my mouth because I got the results three weeks later and found out that he is not my father. My mom had passed away about four years prior, three or four years prior. So I couldn't talk to her about it or ask a question or anything. A lot of people would be, well, your dad is the one that raised you. It shouldn't matter. Well, that's all fine and good

So if you have one solid family member like that in your life, that's pretty much all you need, in my opinion. And of course, it'd be nice to have friends that you could even consider your family because there's a few of those that have helped me along in life. And yeah, I also have people that I've kind of just decided to not bother with anymore. And I know how that can feel kind of lonely

And I'm so sorry that I might have misunderstood, but it seems like he and his side of the family have abandoned you ever since learning that they're not biologically related to you, which is really shady. I'm curious if you're interested in finding out who your biological father is. I'm so sorry your mom wasn't able to tell you. She might have not known. I don't know

This isn't it. And so I started poking around again and I found a group online called DNA Angels. I don't know if they are still all volunteers, but when I did it, they were and they don't take all the cases. It's on a case by case basis to see if they can help you or not. They did accept my case. Within 30 minutes of her working on my case, she said, neither one of those men are your dad

I want to be a meteorologist. So obviously that just never happened but I don't know, something sparked that in me and I don't know, I thought, well, maybe I do have some smart DNA in me and I can do it

I actually started on this app in, I think, August of last year. So obviously August coming up this year would be my one year. And like you, one of the details that you mentioned was that you really have no one to talk to. And I used to be somebody that used to write things. And when you write things for one, it's slower, you have to write everything out. But two, it's just not as fulfilling and satisfying

It's unfortunate that you don't have the father who you knew family to also embrace you with love. That's unfortunate, but it doesn't take away from your experiences and memories that you shared with him. Even though he wasn't your biological father, he still was a father figure for you in your life and it doesn't take away from those experiences. So I hope you can find comfort in that
