Engaged! Wedding Advice!

article image placeholderUploaded by @allowthesun
I've never been a big wedding person, never really had any strong dreams or visions for a wedding. So I thought I would ask you all some advice that you'd have for people engaged figuring out what to do for a wedding. Would love to hear other wedding stories and just any tricks of the trade, as you will. I would love any advice or to hear any stories. Thank you. Bye

I know it depends what you want as an individual or a couple. If you want a big wedding, that's sort of up to you guys. But I would keep it as simple as possible because weddings can get expensive. But that's my advice. Congratulations. I think that's great. You're engaged. I'm happy that you're going to be happy. That's going to be good. Either way, it'll be good. It depends what you both agree on

@allowthesun Congrats! On a time constraint of 32 days & a tight budget.

The funeral home gave it to us free because they never had anyone asked to have a reception there before. And so when you came in, there's this wide curving staircase with a chandelier overhead and you're coming down into this space that's white pastel colors, pinks and blues, not my favorite, but hey, it was free. And then they gave us use of their cutlery and plates and cups and so on, so we didn't have to use paper or plastic

And when you reflect back on this day, you want it to be real and authentic and not, oh, we did this because our parents said, or we did this because this person was funding it and that was what they wanted. And the day not be meaningful or it loses some of its significance because it wasn't what the two of you felt was authentic for you

πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—Congrats !!!!! πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—

I'm sure that you have found this on Facebook and whatnot. But there's there's a ton of. You know. Groups like local. Wherever you live. Consignment. Like buy. Sell. Trade. Wedding decor a lot cheaper because a lot of the times people. After they do the reception and everything after their wedding. They just don't have use for it. So they do sell it. And it's usually really pretty and put together

Music. Hi Nick. It's really good to hear your voice on here. Thanks for responding and thank you so much for sharing your your story, your wedding story. Yes, Vegas. I definitely have thought of that. I honestly think my partner would definitely be interested in that as well. I think he was in Vegas last year for work and he was like, oh, this is kind of cool. So I think he would be interested in that

Oh, christina, thank you so much for sharing your story. I loved everything about it. Like, I feel you let you should write this and, like, put it up, because I just thought all of it was so beautiful from the, like, getting the wedding cake out of people, studying, making cakes, like a college. That's so smart

I know that they'll support whatever we decide to do, but I really didn't know it was going to take this much kind of mental back and forth. But I really appreciate you sharing your wisdom and yeah, we'll keep you all posted on what we decide to do if we ever make a good decision

I know that there are airbnbs that you can have, like that actual ceremony and the reception there, but I'm not sure about that as well. But thank you again. I really appreciate it

Hey, everyone. So, years ago, like ages ago, it almost seems like a lifetime ago, I actually used to do wedding photography. It was a supplement that added to my photo journalism work that I did, along with portrait photography and event photography. So I've got kind of an insider's view of the wedding industry. I've shot really big weddings in really big churches to like really fun sort of country type weddings and barndomidiums. barndominiums. That's hard to say

Congratulations!

I told my husband we got married by a vampire because the guy was dressed all in black, black tie, black shirt, everything was black, and his hair was all slicked back like Bella Lagosi. You probably don't even know who that is, you're so young. But anyway, he just looked like a vampire. And I tried not to laugh throughout the entire ceremony. Long story short, we got married there. We drive to California

Mind you, that's nowhere near the expensive side of things. That's actually fairly modest. And while they certainly loved their wedding, I don't know that they love the amount of debt that it put them in. And so we decided to do things simple. We found, actually, a beautiful public park overlooking the city. It was quiet. There weren't a lot of people around, and it had, like, amphitheater style seating

We eloped

So to make sure everyone is invited and it's on a specific time and it's a specific venue and things like that, really. My best friend got married also a year ago, actually last October. So he's been married for one year almost. And one of my other friends is actually also getting married next month, oddly in also October. So the thing is that when I saw my best friend getting ready for this wedding

I've done blended weddings, too, where there's, like, multiple people involved because it's two divorced days. And that's interesting. Yeah. What are some of the unique things I've seen? Always? Being in nature is beautiful, even if weather is the issue. It's like being in nature is so gorgeous and just making sure whoever officiates knows you and loves you and takes the time to create a vibe of this is not some kind of abstract, like, remote moved experience

Hi, Wren. Thank you so much for responding and giving me some insider tips. I would love to have a really small wedding. Like, the more and more I'm thinking about it and everyone's advice here, it's so helpful. But I know that one big thing I do want is you have to hire a photographer. And that is what I'm willing to spend money on because I want to have nick pictures to remember

Hi. Thank you so much for responding and sharing your story about the vampire that married you. That is so funny. I really love hearing the Vegas wedding stories, and thank you for the advice about just being able to save the money and traveling or doing something else with it. I think that is a big theme that I've been getting on here as well. And I'm all for that because I love to travel, and I agree. I don't think I do enough of it

Hi, Taylor. Thank you so much. And congrats on your wedding. It sounded like such an amazing day. I really love the taco truck idea and that I appreciate you saying how, you know, people just had a great time that you weren't showing off. I Agree. I'd be open to just, like, a barbecue or something. Just so simple. I really like the idea of the open bar. I just want folks to have a good time. And the park idea

Hi. Thank you for your practical advice, though. I think it's really important to look into all the fine print because I I was, at first looking up airbnb to have weddings, but I feel like I'm really nervous about all the fine print that goes with that. But yeah, I appreciate you sharing that. Thank you

I don't want it to not be, like, a thing, but I also don't want it to be, like, this huge, expensive wedding. So it's like, kind of finding that sweet spot where we're not spending so much money that we don't have, but but being able to still have a really memorable and beautiful time with friends and family. So I feel that. Thank you

And the reason why I say that is because, yes, it's such a special day and it's so memorable. But what I do see a lot of people do is they get so stressed during the planning of a wedding because of all the finances and all the opinions and all of the things that come along with a wedding

Hello. I thought I would respond on this thread again and let everyone know that we've decided on what to do for the wedding. And we're going to be having it at a really cute small bookstore that has a chapel garden in the back in California on the central coast. And then there is this restaurant that's on the water. It's on Baya Beach. And, yeah, we rented out that for the evening for dinner
