Is Honesty The Best Policy?

article image placeholderUploaded by @FryedOreo
But yeah, it made me examine honesty and what it means towards the individual as well as society and as well as spirituality. It can be different. It's not universally the same thing. And I think sometimes we put too much stake in honesty and rather just being ourselves. I think there's something to be said about just being you or you don't think about honesty. You don't think about lies. You're just being yourself

I *honestly don’t know sometimes.

Hey, I think this brings up the question of people who have to lie, thinking about people in regimes where they can't be free, where they're hiding activities they're doing, whether it's a woman in Afghanistan, you know, learning at midnight, or a man in Iran who's gay or a child in an abusive relationship who lies to their parents because they don't want to tell them the truth, that they're doing something because they'll get beaten

The invention of lying. @DBPardes

So I guess what one can do is not totally give up and become a barbaric beast, but understand that the beast does reside within you, within me, within all of us. And the sooner you acknowledge that the truer of a person you can be. And lying sometimes saves lives. As you have pointed out, lying and sometimes saves ourselves as well

And that is why I don't accept myself that honesty is the best policy. Because to be a policy it first has to be accepted. It first has to be applied by people, which is not happening in this world
