Humour Misunderstood

article image placeholderUploaded by @GeorgieDee
And then I exaggerate it, or as I like to call it, s*** the story and turn it into a funny moment, a gag a bit. And I've met a person who is taking everything I'm saying as the truth. He's not hearing or feeling the humor or appreciating the humor. And, I mean, I'm using accents and characters and actions, and he's just focusing on the kernel of truth underneath

If you had me dying. I'm like, what an entrance to return back into the social audio world. Welcome back, Georgie. Yes. What an opening. Love it. It's so true. And I think this is such a great swell too, because there's been a few conversations on here today about different forms of communication and whether it's like window dressing and adding unnecessary wording that is not helpful for the relationship or the conversation itself or strategies on being a clearer communicator

Self deprecating humor is one of my favorite little things. Yeah. I think when I was younger, I had Tourette's when it came to bluntness and honesty and directness. And I've learned over time to be more thoughtful and apply language more carefully. Teaching has absolutely, 100% helped me with that, for sure. And humor is such a smooth skill in the classroom, man, for deflecting things, for deescalating, for humility, for connection. And I think that applies to all relationships

Yo, georgie D, you b****. You b****. You're back. I don't believe it, actually. I don't believe anything you say. I don't don't think you're back. I think you're just putting your foot in the stream. I don't expect you to hang around for long. I think you're much too humorous for swell. I think the platform won't be able to contain your humor

Oh, paul O'manny. The delicate tones of the man from Cork. So nice to hear your voice, sir. Yeah, look, I always encourage everybody to have a little bit of b**** in them, because if you don't, won't have a bit of darkness, then you're completely turned to the darkness. You've got to balance out the yin and the yang, and I think it's healthy

We used to do, once a year, a staff talent show, and I would kind of McDonald's do a comedy bit in the middle. And then the year we hired a bunch of, like, 40 new people, and they didn't know our traditions and our culture. I got some feedback questioning my choices, and I was like, oh, yeah, we don't all have the shared understanding. And what to me came across his comments on absurdities came across as mean by some people

Anyway, I'll cut to the chase. So what I figured out is that my humor is very specifically targeted at the people that I'm with. And I know that they have a set of life beliefs that are aligned with mine that will totally appreciate this particular joke or bit. And so at work, I do the same thing outside of the classroom. I'm talking with people, with my colleagues

You said so many interesting things before that that hang on, I got a comment on those. But no, it was the interesting my field that tickled my fancy first. Well, it tickled my fancy to communicate first

I am interested in the way in which you are capable, Georgie, of compartmentalizing your life. How easy is it for you to leave the cafe where, with your friends, you're swearing in a bucolic way, let's say, or really caustic and nasty, let's say, and then you go into the classroom, you put on your I am a respectable member of the academic faculty here, and I am going to tickle your fancy in very boundaried ways
